Floods

Well the floods have subsided but not gone completely. We were one of the lucky people. Most of the houses around us are lowset houses and they had a lot of damage caused by the floodwaters. All the houses had carpet which have now been ripped out of the houses and waiting for pickup. The only problems we had was we lost 5 aircons (landlords problem TAFE) and 1 clothes dryer (our problem), the brakes on the 4X4 are water logged and some minor damage to our motorbikes, so we consider ourselves very lucky.

Now the council are under attack as some of the areas affected by the flood had been deemed Flood Free by the council and very few have flood covered under their insurance. One person I know have had their damage classified as "storm surge" and will cover the damage but their next door neighbor wont be covered (different insurer who claim its flood not surge)

Mozzies and sandflies galore, spiders (I am an arachnophobic) and snakes galore (well I have seen 9) we have 2 snake bite victims.

:hi:Hi Adrian, where are you? I'm in Woodford and our paddock's still up, my road's still flooded, but fortunately there's been no damage here. I'm utterly sick of the rain now, it was supposed to clear a bit today. Not happened. Hope your insurers pay out.

Your rates will probably go up because it sounds like the council will be broke after they get sued.:eyepop:

We live in Roma Yes and I am sick of the rain as well and forcast is more rain on the way. I wont be claiming any insurance as the only thing we lost was the clothes dryer about 400 worth and our premiums will probably go up a bit so we will just go buy one.



Yes we were very lucky thanks for the wishes. We fared very well compared to neighbors.




Fortunately I dont pay rates directly but I suppose the landlord (TAFE) will put up the rent to compensate.

As we hadnt been affected very much we have been the refuge for those who cannot go home and no family around to rely on. Our house as been like a boarding house the last few nights and we have met some of the neighbors for the first time.

Hope it all works out ok. We are insured with AAMI and they don't increase premiums or charge excess on a contents claim. Before you make a move, it may be in your interests to check it out with your insurer.

Levels have fallen and still water across some roads tho. Rail links are cut with some lines just hanging in the air roads have restrictions of less than 5 tonnes. And we are expecting another 100mm + in the catchments over the weekend so the water may rise again.

We are prepared this time. The flood levels we have just had as broken all records for Roma, highest 24hr rainfall, highest flood levels.

On the insurance stuff, my father in law got flooded out from the water coming down the road, straight through the front door and straight out the back door. But because on the property they have a creek, someone in sydney deemed that the creek must have caused the damage. even after sending over footage of the water rushing through the front door, they said that there was nothing they could do because the council had said that the property had been flooded, not damaged by storm surge.

Well fortunately I wont have to deal with any of those problems. The dryer is working well after being dried out, all of the aircons have been deemed safe by the electrician and are all working. Just as well the sun is out and the humidity is through the roof. Gee the sun looks different to what I imagined. Now all we have to do is wait for the ground to dry out.

we had 3 floods last year and were sick of the rain this year hasnt been much different

Watch out for bacteria in the aircons. Make sure they are full dried out.
