I did this image from the ground up and used median combine to get a cleaner image.

Here is the new version:

Which do you prefer new or old?

Greg.

Greg,

V3 is better but I also like the previous version WRT colour, now if you can get a mix between the two? just my taste so pay no attention to that

Hi Greg

Seems to be a bit splotchy and over-smoothed.

Are you using a new computer/monitor? The processing on your recent images seems to have lost the impact of your previous stuff.

Greg prefer the first myself although the colour in the repro appear to me more vibrant maybe as David suggested something between the two

Thanks for the replies. Points taken.

I have revised the image and am now happy with this final version;

I think I have presented this one as well as the data lets me now.
More exposure would give more depth but its quite deep as is at around 5 hours worth. Seeing was between .94 and 1.6 arc seconds per the focus routine in CCDsoft.

Greg the colour and detail is good but, you have donuts around your bright stars

A bit of dark fringing on some or the reflection halos on a couple?

The reflection halos I wasn't concerned with as they are minor and you are going to get them almost no matter which filters you use.

The slight bit of dark fringing is from too aggressive deconvolution.
I saved versions with less deconvolution so I'll check that out. That is the risk with deconvolution, its similar to oversharpening but its a great too though.

Overall a spectacular bit of Vela that! You might consider trying a little less decon as the stars are looking over sharpened just a tad and slightly odd shapped? Otherwise a rather specky image Greg

Its easy to overlook how many versions you need to do to get an image just right.

Hmmm yes, seems he had some issues with it too, who knows if it is fixed now..? Not that many images seemed to have been forthcoming from it either before the sale..? Certainly sounds bwudy awesome though
