Saw this colourful little beasty at my back door. Never seen a fly so colourful! His back was iridescent yellow and green, but mainly yellow.
He's about the size of a March Fly.
Any ideas on what sort he is?

LOL I've reposted the images. Had to Sidonio 'em with a little Smart Sharpen.

Amazing little critters - as with Adams - the colours and eyes, all the little hairs, geeze. Obviously very well made by Mother Nature.

I emailed the photos to the QLD Museum for identification. http://www.qm.qld.gov.au/inquiry/identification.asp
An hour or so later they replied. Very quick service!!

Hi Jeanette,
The fly is called Amenia imperialis. It is common in eastern Qld and NSW and often selects obvious perching sites on rocks, fallen logs, tree trunks etc. The larvae are believed to be parasites of land snails and the adults feed on nectar.
