HI ALL
Need advice on our T.V,every now and again the picture goes PINK,:shrug:every thing else working,We thought it was all this changing over frequency bit.But just had DVD player on and sceen went pink again.
Is there an expenation for this?or is it dying?and need to get new one:(
The T.V is about ten years old ,may be more,a NEC brand, never really had any issues with it untill now.And I cant blame the Sydney Mardi Gra,as it started happening before that:lol:,
Anyhow, some one may have some usefull advice
if so Thanks

Descibed a Tube or tube cct'ry issue. I must admit the CRT market is quite dead now so would believe it to be worth repairing.
I was repairing CRT TV's up to about 3 years ago when I decided it just wasn't worth it anymore (for me at least).

Hi Chris.. this is a long shot but often works. If you take the back off your TV, you will see a small board attached to the end of the picture tube. This board is attached by pushing it onto a round connector made up of lots of pins in a circle. With the power off and the TV unplugged remove this board by pulling it off (Hmmm not worded well). Then clean all the pins with a little metho or even a pencil rubber.. Then push the board back on. You cant get in wrong as the connector has a key on it that only allows it to go on one way.. You will see if you do it. very simple..
Somtimes these pins can get dirty over time and this can cause the problem. Not always, but you have nothing to loose as the set is not working correctly anyway.. I hope I have been some help. I am new to this site and Astronomy, I am always asking for assistance. It's nice to now give some back..
PS. Don't go touching other parts of the inside of the Tv as High voltages can remain in the components for some time and give you a nasty shock. You could even leave the set off for a day or so to let residule power drain. If you only touch the area I mentioned you will be fine.
cheers
Mardy
Chris .... you could sell it to Jen, am sure she would love a pink telly ;)

The simplest are dry solder joints on the rear board. Mostly the dry joints are on the main board follow the read, blue and green wires. Wouldn't advise touching TV cct as all later model CRT TV are double insulated and have no earth on them.
Tube voltage is dependant on the size of the tube and varies from 20,000 to 60,000V and give a really nasty jolt even if the TV is off.
Ultimate asnwer, is it really worth it?

Thanks Mardy, will wait till kids come home and we will attempt your instructions,Apart from that looks like LCD soon:shrug:,what a waste of money that could be used for astronomy stuff!
One more point,it 'flicks' in pinkl, sometimes its fine, then all of a sudden the screen gets pink hue
