At 7:17am, 30 June, 1908, the largest explosion recorded in human history to date reverberated throughout our planet. What caused it? An asteroid? A UFO crash? To this day, internationally renowned scientists of various disciplines argue about the causes of this disastrous explosion. This documentary looks at the latest and most controversial insights of these leading scientists.

says 7:30 - 8:30 SBS1 and SBSHD in both the Sydney and Illawarra guides. We often get better reception from Illawarra than Sydney, despite being in the Sydney suburbs.

What a collection of nutcases each with their own barrow to push.

I'll go with the comet and airburst theory

I rather enjoyed the alien message theory - if aliens wanted to communicate it is obvious they would do it in a destructive manner.
Hi Earthlings, we are up here, oh by the way, bang!

That was quite an enjoyable show, the main theories have quite a bit of merit to them. But the crackpot theories gave me a good chuckle.

I think the airburst theory holds a lot of merit, but I don't think we'll ever really know.

Just saw it as the usual docutainment where popular media tries to meet science in a formularised mish-mash and fails. Totally confused by it and not sure myself if there was any science there at all. If there was, it was given equal status with the nutters. Maybe they were all nutters. A burnt-out astrophysicist talking about vulcanology is a waste of space IMO.

Only bit I enjoyed was the early footage.

One thing I did notice was all those mozzies, without protection you would be drained dry in a few minutes. Somehow I don't think the Aeroguard would cut it up there.

Quite suprised many members saw this as rubbish,May be there is some sower grapes by some members that their not in the league of many of scientists.Yes-there were some crack pots, but some were highly educated, and had good creditals,I am supprised by the response of many.considering this is a scientific forum. But it appears the nature to 'poo-hoo' someone is apparent in walks of life,i did'nt expect to see this on a scientific forum.

It's not sour grapes. It's the way they make science look stupid.

Would you like astrology, the 2012 hoax and spoon bending to be thought equally valid as astronomy?

Astronomy has facts to support it, not wishful thinking and attention seeking.

If I want comedy there are things like Spicks and Specks, The IT Crowd, Talkin' 'bout Your Generation, Two and a Half Men, Monty Python, Red Dwarf and The Goon Show.
