View Full Version here: : Couple of Ha shots from last night

I've managed 5x10min and 6x10min on M42 and the HH last night before it clouded over around 11:00pm. Seeing was very good, transparency not bad. Of course the moon was up :P First night out back into imaging since Early December last year. Everything behaved so I can't complain and it was good to be at it again.
These are panels of a mosaic I've always wanted to do in the Orion area. Due to weather and work commitment it's unlikely I'll finish it this year as it's a bit late in the season but I'm reasonably happy with the result so far.
The rig is the C11 with Hyperstar 3, 7nm Baader Ha and QHY8. Guided through 8x50mm finder and Q-guider/PHD. Bit of camera tilt, gradients and noise but I'll easily get rid of all this in the final composite when I've collected way more data.
Thanks for looking.

Marc,
Wow, they are spectacular -- the Horsehead region is superb!
Well done, mate. Inspirational effort, that.

Marc,
Just wonderful captures. You haven't done any imaging since last year?
Good to see you're back into it.
If this is the QHY8 I would love to see some colour.

Thanks guys, you're all too kind
No color Frank. Best I can do from my light polluted backyard is narrowband.

Nice shots Mark. Really getting to grips with the camera and it will give great images for you. Well done

Thanks Allan. Same QHY8 for me though. Had it for 2yrs now. I haven't defected to the QHY9 like you lot (yet) ;) But you're right with the "getting to grips with it" part. Still gives me gripe now and then :)

Excellent depth and smooth as Marc, the hyperstar is working nicely there. Now something harder, and in colour ;-), Im sure your somewhat past the M42 done that.
Mind you, if a mega mosaic is in the works, thats hard enough, look forward to it ;-)

I'd echo what Fred said - they are beautiful, smooth and stunningly deep... Now give us something we've not seen before! :D

Thanks for all the comments guys. Much appreciated
RGB's nice but not possible from my backyard. Ha is convenient and can stand out on its own. For me it's NB at best from home. Once a month when and if I can get away I usually do some color if the weather's ok from a dark site.
I want to do high-res mosaics so I can connect the dots between familiar targets. Always loved wide-field. The Hyperstar is ideal for this. So I'm afraid you won't see anything new from me for while as I plan to hammer the LMC and Carina next then Ara. :)

Yeh that's a great ability to have Marc - cool
Looks great
Just curious what's the brightening lower left in each image?

Thanks Mike. Likely due to flat fielding. Still struggling with the levels with this rig. That should disappear when I mosaic and stitch. I'll deal with that later.

Great start on these objects Marc!
Looks like things are going great for you.
It's just a bonus when your gear works flawlessly... makes the collection and processing even sweeter.
Look forward to the finished products...
Should be excellent.

Still here Marc,
yes have been out a week or so ago, but moon and conditions have made for a poor time of it.
Need some rain and need autumn to get itself here... now!
Have another ccd coming soon, so hopefully the weather will play ball.. it will be the SX H16..
Should give me some inspiration and get me that extra bit keener!
All the best
