HI All,

Back again, this time was trying out my new DSLR 450D. I must admit compared to the webcam using before the DSLR is far superior and once I get some tracking for the DOB will hope take more images.

Took a lot of shot here being the first a full image Prime Focus image of the moon. Managed to get the whole moon in the image. Image reduced to 30% and quality 75%. The camera is not whitebalance set at the moment. Need to learn more on that.

I hope to later have some image taken with my 3x barlow with the DSLR.

Excellent, Malcolm! Which scope did you use?

A little blown out on the left hand side - if you took it in RAW you might be able to adjust it by reducing the exposure time.

Always make sure you use the histogram and check on the camera after your test shots to ensure there's no blown out areas.

Looking nice and sharp though, great start! The DSLR is definitely easier/better for 'full moon'ish shots like this. But the humble webcam will come into its own when you want to do high resolution.

Thanks Mike, The scope was the 12" DOB. I must admit in total I took 116 Shots and after the first 100 I remembered to put on my glasses, hence the sharp focus. Actually I found the sharper focus was achieved by using the viewfinder on the camera instead of the live view.

I agree about the webcam, I looked at the 3 x Barlow images after posting this and it was a bit motion blurred. I could up the ISO to 1600 and see if I can get a faster shutter speed for the higher resolution, but the webcam I used in the past did a lot better.

I have decided to build a EQ platform for the DOB, so when that is complete I should get a load of improvement.

Still learning about the camera, I did take RAW image but don't know how to manipulate them as yet.

Hi Mike,

Did a crash course on manipulating RAW images, am stunned at what can be done, Couldn't control for shutter changes etc but found loads of other control especially colour temperature. I have manipulated the image attached. Doesn't look so brown. Colour Temperature was changed to 5100K which could be a good reference for all moon shots, be interesting what other people acheive with colur temp.
