Whithout giving too much away - What's it about? :D

I can't go to cinemas. I had a doozy of a motorike accident in my 20s that shattered my hips and broke my left leg. For about 15 years now I haven't been able to sit for more than 20 minutes. No one around here goes to films that don't have tractors or boobs in them.

I am given to believe the film is excellent and has something to do with space hobgoblins. The problem is, just about every Avatar thread seems intent on giving away the entire film and its minutiae.

Can anyone give a quickie outline (no endings please) and tell me if its worth renting one of those LCD projectors for?
Ta!

Hi Peter,

Its an excellent movie and I think the reason people love it is because it has a dream like experience to it.

The movie (without spoiling it) is about a man who is also paraplegic (waist down) who joins a scientific sector of an organization that is after a special mineral that is found in an alien planet.

However the alien plant has inhabitants that occupy it.

The organization find a way to transfer human consciousness into a body of an alien that is the same as the inhabitants.

Then using that artificial alien body they try and force the inhabitants to leave so they can mine the mineral.

To be honest Peter, that is one of the main reasons I've not gone to see it.
I can't sit comfortably for that length of time.
Bring back the Drive In theatre. You could throw a mattress in the back of the ute and watch it in comfort.

I urge you, just this once, go and see it. Even if you have to fidget and get up and move around, etc.

Pay extra for the gold class sessions so you have your own bigass leather recliner.

You, too, Jeanette.

You must experience the immersion in 3D.

I finally got to see it last week. It's more about the 3D experience than the story. You won't get that from a projector (at least not yet).

There wasn't many people there last week so if you needed to move about you wouldn't be disturbing anyone.

Thanks all. I didn't realize it was 3D. Do you need glasses or is it CGI-type?

Oooooo. Just looked at the clip! Thanks Tony.

Still.....can't drink. can't smoke. What's cinema coming to! :)

I think we actually have a drive-in within driving-in distance at Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula. Its supposed to be pretty posh. Good idea about the matress!

Peter,
its 3d in some cinemas for some sessions
they provide the 3d glasses (new polarised system, not the old red and green colored glasses)
I felt the 3d effects were nice and mild in fact so that they just added a bit of depth to the movie subtly.

As H suggested you may be able to get a seat in sme comfortable setting but if you cant just pick a session first thing in the morning where there wont be anyone around in the theater, get an aisle seat and feel free to wander around every 2 minutes!
its a good movie.

The alien topless parade on tractors is amazing in 3d

People need to see this movie in 3D, in the theatre, for the full experience.

Time is running out.

Thanks everyone.
I am convinced. I toured the local picture-palace earlier today and their seats are more comfortable than mine!
Also any cinema that brings you your Sherry and biscuits can't be all bad!

I dared a couple more clips on Fooltube last night and it looks extremely impressive.

I think there are a couple of early (Noonish) showings for the other wrinklies around here.
Do you think they do Shiatsu as well?
"Good Scope!"
