View Full Version here: : Jupiter at 4.30am this morning
Seems Mike & I were out in the cold at the same time... wasn't too bad here, minimum was 12 degrees overnight.
Seeing was ok, maybe 8/10, not the best I've had, but at least it was good enough for me to grab lots of data.
Here's the result of processing 700 frames in each of red, green, blue through registax in batches of about 120, and then recombining the 6 masters in each colour to get the final image.
I've found that batch processing like this gives a smoother final image - you guys should try it. The downside is that it took 18 runs through registax :-(
cheers, Bird

Just let me get this straight Bird. :P The six masters in each colour, you recombined in Registax as bmps?

BTW Beautiful shot :) Sorry I was too stunned for a moment.
Paul,
The six masters were recombined in Astra Image using the "register images" and "combine images" processing options.
Each master was created in Registax, then saved as a tiff and loaded into AA for a bit of LR deconvolution before I recombined them.

Thanks Bird. BTW before I go google searching are you aware of any tutorials Astro Image around anywhere
nope. I sort of poked around in it until I figured stuff out....
p.s. if you're going to google, make sure you use "Astra Image".

Maybe I'd better look up LR deconvolution first.
This page:
http://www.quantimage.com/examples/deconv/example_rl.html
got me interested in LR deconvolution. Sadly that package is far too expensive, but then I saw AI had it...

Thanks I'll check it out now while I wait for the clouds to clear and the moon to go down.

Bird like I said, simply impressive, best on this planet that I have seen, almost rivals hubble.
If you don't get published it will be a bloody miracle. Perhaps a book on your techniques. I would certainly buy it.
Keep em coming.

This is what astrophotography is about, taking shots as good as or better than what one can see at the eyepiece.
Well done !

Bird,
beautiful image but it's gotta be a fake!
I just got back from some back yard observing and I saw it for myself ˇwith my own eyes!, through what everyone I know describes as a ˇHuge! thing, and I can most confidently state that Jupiter is nothing more than a yellowish-white disk!
Cheers, you *******! :envy:

That's stunning Bird..
On the topic of Deconvolution.. Have you heard of the Richard-Lucy algorithm for Deconvolution? Some here reckon it's pretty good, but I could find no info on it.
Robby, I use LR deconvolution as part of my processing, in Astra Image.
cheers, Bird

ahhh so that's what you meant by LR... I thought you were referring to some "Linear Regression" deconvolution process!! A hangover from high school when LR always meant Linear Regression.
Thanks for that.

Do you have an RGB filter in front of the ToUCam? Or did you just select RGB when required from the ToUCam settings (can you do this?).

He has a firewire B&W camera (not a ToUcam), and he uses some expensive separate RGBI filters.

Thanks Ice. That explains alot!

I always wanted to marry a bird.....looks like I have found one.
Fantastic shot Bird......we can discuss your methods over our honey moon....lol
You can see the camera specs here:

Tony...sadly looks like you're male, and also I'm already married... I guess that makes 2 strikes...
