WINDOWS 7 computer compatable to LX 90 software

I need a new laptop, the existing computer is Windows XP, which is not available. when shopping for a new computer I'm told Windows 7 may not handle my LX90 software. Can any one with a LX90 using Windows 7 computer for astro photography provide info regarding this question?
I'm using a DMK Webcam and a Cannon 1000D camera.

I'm going through this exact issue myself at the moment.

As I understand it, to get full use of more that 2GB internal memory, you have to run a 64bit system which is now offerred by Windows 7. Only problem there is that Windows 7 64bit systems are not compatible with old technology like Meade LPI's, DSI's, etc.

I'm trying to confirm myself, but if you get at least Windows 7 Pro 64bit (or better), then you can download from Microsoft and run a patch which enables a Windows XP Virtual Mode. This then gets around the 32bit driver issue which is required to connect the Meade devices. The likes of Win XP are all 32bit. The catch here is that your laptop hardware must be compatible and able to run this VT mode (usually a BIOS setting to enable it if it exists)

The thing with XP mode is you have to have a processor that supports VM technology the software Win 7 Home premium and above I think supports XP mode but if your hardware doesn't support VM tech XP mode wont work. And yes you need 64bit to use more than 3Gig of ram but be aware that with 64bit your drivers must be digitally signed by Microsoft or they are disabled by Win7

Some further information.
Compiling the Stellarium source code on Windows 7 64 bit.
The Qt compiler will not compile in native Widows 7 but compiles correctly in the virtual machine where you can make a package that will run correctly in native Windows 7 Program files (x86).

Well my laptop has Win 7 pro and uses 3.25 gigs of my 4 gigs of ram, which is pretty good performance wise with starry nights and stellarium. After about 3 gigs of ram you really want to work on a bigger and better processor.

Win 7 pro and Ultimate have the compatability options. If I remember from reading the specs win 7 home premium does not.

Just a pathetic 1.66 ghz dual core lol. But it does alright you know. The 3 gigs of ram get it over the line for the astro programs. Only 128 mb graphics card too!
