For my clarification as I don't own a TV: are these shows pre-scripted and planned out in advance?
What little I have seen in the past makes me think that it's all staged. Happy to be wrong and told otherwise.

Staged, no is my answer for you H, season 20 is going to be so good. :)
we were Survivor tragics for the first few seaons- i think we stopped at Palau.
i thought the challenges were often fun to watch- a mix of physical and mental challenges.

I really enjoy the show, for the physical challenge and the game theory involved, especially interesting seeing who keeps it together as they begin "shutting down". I thought the last season that finished just last week was truly excellent. Seen every season except "Marquesas", which I'm not sure was ever shown here.

what a show. I definatly am a survivor tragic. Seen every show, and have watched some more tha once. lol. i just can't help myself. I dont think its staged either. Absolutly can't wait for this new season to begin. Heroes vs Villains is goin to be excellent, Russle should once again be interesting to watch. I started out thinking he was an idiot last season, but by the end i couldn't help but love the guy. I can't wait to see what happens with people like coach, ace, tyson and Gerri. Should be a laugh. I wonder weather they'll actually believe any of coach's Bull $%#*. And on the other side, i can't wait to see an older Colby along side with Rupert and Sugar.
Makes me want to jump up and down with excitement. Pathetic i know, but i just can't help it.

Thanks...But...
once the season has started airing in the States, I keep right away from any internet site that may contain any information to spoil the later Aussie free to air viewing.
Good to see I am not alone in being a fan (read Fanatic) :)

All those that watch the show are definitely survivors IMO.:)

It's ok though Allen, Stentilyser posts each episode the day after its aired in America, so you should be able to watch along only a day behind. Shouldn't see any spoilers there, except the episode itself lol. I prefer this way, otherwise by the time it does finally get here to Oz, most of the info on the show is pretty much well known to the public.
2 days and counting till the premiere. lol told you im a fanatic

yeh lol, she is surely the villain this season. I'm wondering weather that guy from the oldies tribe Marty is going to also turn out a villain too. Early call but i recok yve (eve i think) and kelly b (the one with the leg) will last to the end.
I think it would be great to see an international version.
I dont mind the show but it does get tiresome seeing Americans all the time. A few different nationalities and languages, now that would spice up the show.
cheers

I really liked the first few seasons when they showed some actual Surviving some of the things of their daily life now it is more stagemanaged and less reality based in my opinion all the best bits are cut out and left on the editors floor.
I know I was not suppose to mention this, but it is staged, and hardly survival, as if, and if some one actually didn't survive, they are hardly going to perish, with a complete camera crew in front of them.
I have seen some parts of it and really think it is nonsense, to much of this not real reality stuff, IMHO

Yeah, thanks for not mentioning that Leon. :)
(See disclaimer on Post #1)
This season does not look quite as good as the last one, but that was a hard act to follow.
Na is probably the most annoying beach I can remember, which probably means she will be the winner. (Lets hope not)
Sure this is filmed in front of a huge camera and production crew, and no one is going to perish, but it is tough. If you watch it you know that. Jimmy Johnston is not the first to say that he had no idea just how hard it is.
Anything on TV (even the News) is going to be effected by the very presence of cameras in front of the participants. Actually the news pisses me off more, how they get victims to re-enact the event, and then film it as if it were the actual event, together with feigned emotion.
How humiliating. (and insulting to an intelligent viewer [if any]).
Survivor (IMHO) is a great study in human interaction, greed, cunning and tactics. With the added bonus of some pretty remakable scenery and regular night time-lapse videos of the Milky Way circling the sky.
I think I'd like to see Marty win it (us oldies need to stick together :P )
...but that opinion is sure to change over the next 9 weeks.

In a nutshell, YES !
Mate of mine got on one. He was told what to say to create the most conflict. The people chosen were picked ... to create the most conflict. The whole thing is scripted ... to create the most conflict.
It wouldn't do to have a 'Reality' show ( that has GOT to be an oxymoron ) that actually had the people cooperating to acheive something.

Yeah it is staged up to a point. they certainly pick personalities that will clash or maybe get along a little to well (if you know what i mean) for the cameras, but the lack of food and getting their own shelter and such is real. Have you ever seen what happens when they win coffee as a reward, its hilarious to see them all buzz. Also the weightloss is definatly not staged, some of them look like skeletons by the end of it.
There was actually a rumour that in the outback season, some smarty found out where they were and flew over and dropped chocolate bars down to them. Don't know if thats true or not, but made me laugh all the same, and when you see people like russell pass out and be near to the point of his heart failing, or the other guy who fell in the fire and had his skin hanging off his hands, you know not all of it is staged. I like the challenges most of all, and seeing how they cope with the elements. like Allan L said if Jimmy Johnston says its one of the toughest things he's ever done, then i'm inclined to believe its pretty darn tough.
:D
cheers guys and happy watching.
