Sometimes things come along that just can't be missed.;)
I've been looking for an old trials bike to play on for while, but when my neighbour's 2000 Montesa 315R came up for not too much more than a lot of the old bikes I'd been looking at... well it was too hard to pass up!:)
I used to ride trials as a teenager (34 to 39 years ago!:eyepop:) and a had an old Suzuki RL250 as few years ago that I taught my son to ride on, but now I'm looking forward to playing on a new generation trials bike and learning the new style and techniques:thumbsup:. Techniques have changed a lot in that time, so I'm already enjoying working on the basics.:D

Nice bikes the montessa. I had a trials bike 40 years ago. When all my friends were belting around the bush on their DT250/360's I was putting around on my bike. They all called me a wuss because I would prefer to go slowly with skill.
Now you've started me thinking I should sell my XVS1100......

I was never into those sort of things. Cars were what I liked. But when I was very young I used to ogle meccano sets in the toy shop window and always want one. I got a #2 for my birthday (4th) I was over the moon.
From then on I wanted a #10 set but they were so far out of the reach of ordinary people I had to just look in wonder. I never lost the interest and now I have 2 #10 sets and a box of parts as well as one of these:
Great things to play with when the skys are cloudy!

Don't do anything rash, now... you need a roadie too!;)
Yeah I used to ride my older brother's Montesa Cota 123. It was a great little bike for a 15 year old to throw around. Before that he had the first Ossa Mick Andrews replica in Aus, so I played on that too.:) My first trial was when I was 10 I think... on my father's Suzuki TS90! (which later became mine...)
Oh, that's almost a foregone conclusion when I feel ready to start stretching my comfort bubble.:P Shouldn't be anything high speed though!;)
Very nice, Brett! I had an XR600 till a couple of years ago, but decided to sell it when I wasn't riding it much (after I got the BMW;)) and I was starting to feel that I'm getting old enough not to bounce too well:lol:.
Keep in touch. If you feel like dropping out for a whirl wind visit you're most welcome, but I'll understand if it suits you better to stay in Bathurst on this occasion. We'll catch up for sure when you're on the job:thumbsup:.

I was wondering about that too. There is only one place your bum will end up and it don't look comfortable - maybe what's why it's a 'trial'. It looks like a motorbike crossed with a slippery dip. To paraphrase the bard - 'it is neither transport nor amusement - a man knows not how to use it'.

Ahhh I see, it's for those who enjoy pain. Good grief!!! Are those fall as far as they look?? Are those rocks as hard as they look??
Stick to astronomy. Even dropping a counterweight on your big toe is preferable to that.

Al, now you're making me restless... nice bike. I've been eyeing off the Montesa trials bikes for a while now. I had a Cappra 250VR Mx bike in 1974, lovingly hand made in Spain. I also had a Kawasaki KT250 Trails, not a terrribly serious trials bike, but good enough to scale the odd log or rockface.
I'm envious....:face:

:) I can understand that. The new generation of trials bike are great fun to ride! The new riding style and techniques is going to keep me entertained for a while. Much more clutch work and much more balance these days, but I like a challenge, learning and applying mind and body together.:D

trials/trail... are they 2 different types of bikes?
sheeny

Yep. A trail bike is a generic general purpose sort of off road bike that you can probably register and ride on the road. Brett's bike is an enduro bike... think of it as halfway between a trail bike and a motocross bike, but these days trail bike seems to be a broad category that includes trail, enduro, trials and motocross bikes at times.
A trials bike is a bit more extreme, usually not registerable these days (the old ones could be) built for negotiating difficult terrain - typically places you can't walk. They have a similar power to weight ratio as an F1 car. It's a challenging sport.:)
Not that I plan to get too extreme. I used to ride trials in the old days when I was young. Now I want a bike I can ride around the property and play on, learning the new techniques and getting some exercise and sharpen up my balance and control skills;).

No accom in Bx? I hope you get something in Oberon, it'll be a lot closer to the job site than Lithgow or Orange. The Big Trout is the pick of the motels in Oberg.:)
