At our local wetland/lake, in the middle of a housing development, there is a huge flock of egrets, and back swans, ibis, ducks, coots and swamphens, The local birders tell me over 100spp can be seen there.

Here are a few from yesterday

Beautiful images Odille. Really very well composed.

This location sounds very much like some of the ones I enjoy here. Spring's around the corner and that means nesting time, can't wait.

Lovely set of images.. Number 3 and 4 are my favorites...

About a year ago I spent 3 or 4 afternoons a week down at the local lakes taking countless photos of egrets to hone my wildlife photography skills... They are a hard bird to capture because they are pretty flighty, not really keen on you getting too close, and because they are stark white, getting the correct exposure levels on them can be really tricky..

You've done a great job..

Alex.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. Steve, nesting time has of course finished here, but I did find a darter nest down at these wetlands, so if they nest in the same place very year I will be watching next year. Here's one of them with the chick.

Thanks for the bonus shot Odille. Your Darters are very similar to our Anhinga, diving spear fishers that I enjoy watching.

The Egret and Anhinga here return to their nesting sites year after year so you'll likely see a repeat next spring. Lots of luck, nesting time is a lot of fun.
