Hey there Mike and Terry
Would you guys please have a look at the Tapatalk vBulletin extension that would give users of the iPhone and Android phones (Blackberry and Nokia support coming very soon) a much better way to interact with the forum than via the standard browser?
It's a free plugin from these guys: http://www.tapatalk.com/
There are lots of forums (including AusPhotography) that use it, and it's very good.
Cheers blokes! :)

Good stuff Mike. You need the appropriate Tapatalk application on your phone, but it's only a couple of bucks. Well worth it. Makes for a very compact list-based display that is very easy to navigate.

There is one used by the snake forum Aussie Pythons & Snakes http://www.aussiepythons.com/ that automatically recognizes what browser you are using including the iPhone / iPod Touch.
Here is a screen shot I just took on my iPod Touch. I am currently using my laptop to view IIS.

Cost me just $3.99, not sure whether thats $AU or US.
I've only spent a couple of minutes using Tapatalk on AP forum, but I'm suitably impressed.

Yeah - good eh Phil! :)
There are two versions - the free one that doesn't let you PM (and something else) and the pay-version AU$3.99 that's fully-featured. Nice! :)
All dollar figures you see Phil are in AU$ - unless you signed up to Apple with an overseas address! :)

I've done it with our own society website - www.macastro.org.au, and it works a treat. :) :D:D:D
Ours is phpBB3.0x, but the technique is the same for vBulletin. It's a five minute job.
Once you run Tapatalk - search for "Macarthur"...

I notice that the stargazers lounge supports tapitalk.
After some delving into the workings of this plugin, I wont be adding the TapaTalk to the site. I don't need the possible security issues & mishaps from third party applications.
Sorry 'bout that.

I respect your decision as it's your site. I haven't heard of any substantiated security issues with the software perse, but that's not to say there aren't any.
Are you looking at alternatives for mobile users, as there are plenty of us here? Maybe something like this? http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=151186
There's just so much extra junk on the page for phone browsers to have to ignore otherwise. Look at this site on your mobile browser - it's almost as good as a Tapatalk page: http://mobility.mobi

No problem Terry, if you feel that the plugin compromises security, then it's best left out.
I've been using the Safari app on the iphone to browse and after an hour use or so, for me at least, it performs quite well, possibly better than Tapatalk, the learning curve is just longer and the potential for error greater.
