Hi Tom,

I have spent absolute hours following the filaments around that neck of the woods with my TARDIS (18 inch f/4.5 big blue box Dobo, hence the nic-name) and an O-III filter. You have caught that section of the Vela SNR brilliantly, as well as the nearby Gum Nebulae which form a fine contrast to the thin spindles in your frame.

A very busy and very rewarding part of the sky. Great stuff.

That's a masterpiece Tom. Such wonderful framing and detail.
The AP155 is the king of its class and the Proline 16803 the king of its class also.

Magnificent as always Tom. A striking image with so much diversity across the target. Well worth spending time to digest everything.

Great image.

I had another look at this one. It is such a fabulous image.

You could even try a bit of O111 with this one as those tendrils show up best in O111 rather than Ha. How you blend it without affecting the nice colour balance elsewhere could be a challenge but I am sure you could do it.

Thanks Greg,

This is an OIII blended image. I used lighten mode and blended 50% to the green and 100% to the blue channel. I think this image could use some more H-a to bring out the tendrils more but I'm going to pass and move on to a new target.

BTW, I've been missing your wonderful images. I hope you've got some coming our way!!

Just a question Tom, I notice that data was remotely captured from your AU site, how long would it take you to process the datas and what do you use for stacking, processing etc

Tom Davis

Processing usually takes a couple of hours.

I use software like golf clubs, ie, different software for different steps. Some of this has to do with the large size of chip and the demands it makes on the software (alignment for example). I have found that a smaller chip is much easier to data process.

I calibrate in CCD Stack. I then use Registar to register the image subframes. I then take those registered frames back into CCDStack and normalize, data reject, and combine into masters. Back to Registar to register the masters. Into Maxim to make an RGB image. Maxim to DDP Lum and RGB, then into PS CS2 for gradient removal, LRGB combine, filtering data etc.

I know that I could use one software to do it all (CCDStack, Maxim, PixInsight) but I can't get good registration in CCDStack or Maxim, and I still struggle using PixInsight!

This works for me at this time of my processing life. I keep testing and trying other steps though.
