How do I order from Andrews com? the web doesn't show the email address and only the phone number. and I don't like calling people I don't know over the phone... And you can check for mistakes when sending orders via email.
I want to buy Barlow lens, 1.25" achromatic 2x magnification (long type). also can it be a money order or bank deposit instead of credit card?
Thanks,
Tony

I just ordered some gear off them this afternoon over the phone.
They are very knowledgeable and helpful .
You can direct deposit payments, they'll let you know their details over the phone.

I think they removed the email address once the guys in the shop were too busy answering email equiries.
I still have Lee's address, and communicate every now and then when I have an enquiry. It can take a while to get a reply. You're better off calling. As others have said, Luke is very friendly and very knowledgeable.

I dont get the 'no email' thing. A lack of email contact in this day and age is why I generally dont buy from them..
Lee told me he was spending hours advising people and answering long winded questions for people who mostly took the info and bought elsewhere. In a two man show, there wouldn't be much else he could do I'd imagine.
Cheers

I cant say enough about the guys at Andrew's. Bought some things over the phone on Friday (after some really helpful advice) and it arrived first thing Monday morning.
This is the second time I have bought from them. Service is great and prices are great. Can't beat that!!!!

I am prety sure they don't have a PC on the store to naswer emails - and Lee had to do it from home at night - said there are too many tyre kickers

If you ever get to go to the shop personally, which I have done a few times, you'll see that they are always busy with helping people. They will always spend a good amount of time with each customer and as others have said, Lee was getting way too many emails to be able to reply in a timely fashion so he now focuses on shop-front and phone orders.
It's not hard to phone in an order or even fax one in if you're feeling anti-social, they action an order quickly and unless something is on backorder you'll get it in a few days.
Sucks for those outside NSW though :P I cant ring NSW numbers from work, so my only choice is weekends. Not saying its impossible, but it is damn annoying, and puts me off ordering from them.
To each his own.

Hi Tony,
I would get the APO 2.5x version, the achromatic one has a LOT of colour fringing... I have the APO version and its MUCH better to look and photograph through than even the ED version.
Just my opinion, but the APO 2.5x is only $49.

Never saw the email thing as a real problem. Like Bintel I ring and they know who I am; we talk for a bit I get the info I need and if goods are in store I buy. I am sure they will do bank transfer if you want. Good operators like so many other Australian astro stores.
It is different how they operate but not wrong.

Yep, I've paid by bank deposit in the past. No problem.

I should say, while it does turn me off, I have still bought from there in the past (via email) and have always been happy with the products/service....what is worse IMO is the sites that dont even list prices - why have an online presence at all?

I must add that I recently bought a pair of giants from Andrews.
Rang and spoke with Lee on Friday afternoon, paid by cc on the phone,
and on Monday afternoon I had the binoculars ! On the Sunshine Coast in QLD.
That's great service !
(I also built a parallelogram mount and put it on a surveyor's tripod which was $89 on ebay.)

They only sell this one and the 2" one which doesn't fit my telescope. So What do I do??

Just doing my part for Andrews :)
I tend to be very shy over the phone as well, but once you talk to them you realise they are just every day ppl, not intimidating at all :)
I can vouch for the excellent service, and confirm that they will accept direct debit (i.e. bank transfer) for payment.
They provided great service too when I had issue with my EQ5PRO, so I would definitely buy from them again.
Cheers,
Steve
Hallo there,
I live in the country, far western NSW and have ordered a number of items over the phone. Never had any problems. They are really helpful and efficient.
Hope it helps

Hi Tony,
Yes, there is a 1.25" version of the 2.5x APO barlow on the GSO page
2.5x magnification, 1.25", fully multi-coated,3 element apochromatic $49.00
Follow this link http://www.andrewscom.com.au/site-content-section-10-guansheng.htm
And then scroll down to the barlows.
This is the one I meant before. $20 more than the achro, but worth it.
Cheers
Chris

The email address provided by a person who registers a domain name is publicly available. You can find them on websites such as whois.com and the Australian equivalent. This is how I found out their email address last year. Lee answers emails fairly quickly.

It does not have to be. For a fee most registrars will hide all the email addresses and even names.

anybody have any thoughts about 5x magnification, 1.25", fully multi-coated, 3 element, apochromatic??
jjjnettie
04-02-2010, 07:40 PM
I bought one of those.
I've used it once.
5x is just tooooo much.
I have 3 barlows, the one that gets the most use is my 2x Big Barlow. I've doubled up, adding another 2x barlow to the train. It was a night of near perfect seeing, Saturn at 1000x magnification!!! But nights like that are very rare indeed.
Have to agree - Unless you are doing some planetary imaging with a webcam, a 5x barlow is not going to be very useful ;)

Yes, but they usually give an email address that is redirected to the person who registered the URL. Andrews do not use this service. Also some, like the one that I use, do not have a fee for private registrations.

I have had a looked at the Andrews site and compaired prices and they seem quite good. I have no problem talking over the phone either. I think they should do a bit more work on their web site however as it is their first point of customer contact. Things like a Frequently Asked Questions page and when they take products off their web site they should fix up the dead links. Maybe after a sale they could answer questions about the product via email too.... and for a Naglar or two I would gladly fix all of the above lol :D
