Hi,

Ive just gotten a job teaching in Goodooga, about 80Km north of Lightning ridge. As a present im looking towards buying my own 200mm scope. I'm looking for anyone in the LIghtning Ridge area or surrounds who has a scope and can help me out if needed. A quick browse through the list of astro clubs puts the nearest around 400Km away from me :(

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,
Mathew.

Good luck in Goodooga.
I use to live in Moree and we occasionally went out to the Ridge.
There is an observatory in the Ridge but it never had a telescope in it. The guy that was building it blew himself up so it was never finished.
Fun part of the world. :P
You can watch the nails lift on the verandah floor for amusement in the sun.

Hey there Mathew :)

I'll be up there for a week after the first weekend in March. My folks-in-law own and run the Black Queen on Sims Hill, and I'm going up to help them set up for the season.

If you're up there and want to pop in, we can chew the fat over an evening if you'd like. I'll probably bring a refractor and small EQ mount with me.

Terry - the "Astronomers Monument" is just near us, and was always a bit of a weird place along with its owner/builder. It was more a monument to Astronomy than an observatory as such and is a bit of a death trap to visit these days... LOL!

Hi Matthew,
UNENTAS runs out of Armidale, occasionally im over that way doing Asteroid Occultations or some such.
Astro Soc of Coona is also in that area, so if you ever need a hand or help at all then by all means drop us a line!
