When you think it is all good to go...check the moon phase (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/moonphase.html).

Time to stay indoors & howl ;)!

It's full moon :poke:

A time when even the moon itself is at its worst time to observe :(

Now fellas, there are always plenty of doubles to hunt down under a full moon...

You could go for the bright clusters in Carina and all that or find some nice doubles.

Carina sounds good, any other ideas anyone?

Roobi,

There are some stunning clusters in Puppis, which is at a great location to observe.

NGC 2451 is my favourite there.

Good luck.

I guess you could look at...insert the droll comment... "the Moon"!...droll very droll!:tasdevil:

Well....I thought it humorous....just a little bit!;)

I know what your thinking...all dressed up & no place to go!...Astronomy is like that. Patience is the curse you have to endure.

Anyway look for bright larger objects like some globular clusters & open clusters around 6hrs to 13Hrs RA at high -ve angle declination.

The projects page has 111Bright NGC southern objects (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/projects.html). Arrange the list in Excel by RA hrs to see what is in your FOV by Hrs. I have an easier version of this list also with Messier names etc. PM me if you want it.

You could try some long exposure landscape photography with the full moon out. It can produce some spectacular results.

Was clear all night, but lots of haze and pollution so even without the moon it would've been a crap night for DSOs.
