I recently posted a thread discussing dodgey dealers and what do you know it's been taken off the forum, How long will this post last i wonder?

Seriously i think a little bit of politics is at play here, who would of thought a hobby that is so beautiful about the wonders that sit above our heads that we all love and admire could be twisted with people's greed and freedom of speach snatched by the powers that be!!!

Disgraceful

I suggest you read the terms and conditions of posting to this forum.
No guarantee of free speech there nor the right to post possibly slanderous/libelous material.

I almost had a message prepared for a response typed already for that, so predictable, seriously terms and conditions? we are on an internet forum with freedom of speach in AUSTRALIA MATE!! as long as i don't swear and be nasty or rude as far as i'm concerned i should be allowed to discuss the fact that their are sharks out there and a comment like yours makes me think your probably on the bandwagon

Over the past 5 years people have complained about the right to say what they want. This is not right, It's not your site is it?
Mike and terry and the Mods do a super job.
People have come and gone and some returned.
Most members are sick of people wining about freedom of so called speach.
If you don't like how this site is run please leave.
This is one of the best sites out there. It has done so much to bring the astronomical community together.
I try not to comment like this but I'm sick of the complaints about this site. Go away if you don't like it.
Most of us love this site the way it is.

We in Australia DO NOT have freedom of speech - to say what we want, when and where we want to. If anyone slams a person or retailer in the media, print, radio, internet forum or whatever, then they and their lawyer could find themselves in front of a magistrate. Mike, Terry and the mods do an excellent job controlling posts that are unwise or potentially defamatory. If I was the owner of this site I would do exactly what they are doing. This is one of many reasons I still belong to this forum and haven't bothered with the others.

You make me laugh, on one hand you talk about this great community and then slap someone in the face on the other i call that a double standard.

Topic was to help the community last time i checked,
Which is what i initially discussed , all i see isl a clicky little group of people protecting their wallets and god help anyone that h a point that differs from yours right?

Like you, I am a non-fee paying guest on Ice In Space, enjoying the free use of servers and software, as well as the free “thinking” time and free management time of some generous folks. Not to mention the company of a bunch of like minded astro folks.:)

During my membership of this community, I have seen several posts about the perceived “freedom of speech” on Ice In Space and as none of them involved me, I have never been personally affected or upset. I can well understand that if it is your own post, it would be quite easy to feel upset.:(

However, looking at this from a more detached perspective, I really think that if you want a guarantee that what you write will be published and remain published, you will probably need to set up your own website with software, a web server and goodness knows what else it takes to operate and manage such a site. You would probably also need to protect yourself (and your assets?) from any behaviour that you deem unsavoury, contentious, irresponsible, legally dodgy, etc. Then, and this is a big one, you will probably require an audience who might be interested in what you write.;)

Don’t take it personally; at work there are policies and procedures to protect the organisation and its owners. Then there are traffic laws and rules, council by laws, etc. so it’s not surprising to find guidelines that condition what is deemed appropriate to post on Ice In Space. It could be very, very expensive and personally quite harrowing for the owners and operators if “something goes wrong” and they are deemed liable as a result of what someone else writes!:)

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Dennis,

i appreciate i very nice response by a decent human being, good to know that this forum has them , im sure only a few bad seeds really.

My original thread was based on a thread posted some weeks ago, i literally noticed a 2k price drop by Andrews to compete with another dealer and asked the question, HOW? WHY? as far as i'm concerned that's not slanderous , but until it was removed then i got angry thinking it was removed because someone was protecting someone elses wallet

Thanks and i'm not leaving this site because it's clear there are helful decent people on board

Thank you Geoff, Dave, Paul and Dennis.

Nothing more needs to be said.

The original thread has been moved so the moderators can discuss it.
