G'day all, :gday: this subject just doesn't seem to fit anywhere else...
Now that I have recovered from Mount Kosciuszko...
As part of my continuing 2010 resolution to get out more and take more risks, I am looking for company for a photography outing near Canberra in the very near future. I am happy to take just one person or a group.
What: Bushwalk Photography outing. Full Saturday, early start, late finish. Possibly camp overnight there and return Sunday morning. :campfire: Hard going. Hiking with backpack containing all the sundries PLUS photography equipment.
Where: Ginini Falls from Mount Franklin in Canberra's southern mountain range. http://members.tip.net.au/~jevans/Pages/Walk%20Descriptions/2007_04_17.htm
When: Real soon. Probably mid to late February on a Saturday.
I am going up there for Landscape, Macro and low-light photography. Hopefully the falls are running. They are around 200 metres high!!:eyepop:
I've never been there before which is kind of the whole point. The trip will require fitness and stamina. It is dangerous and there are snakes aplenty at this time of year.
This will be hard going and challenging so if you are unfit this is probably not for you.
If this sounds like something you would like to throw yourself into, let me know and we will tee it up. It will be a very intense little adventure but one that will be extremely rewarding. If you do decide to come, then be decisive!:poke: No namby-pambying around and "OOOH..I might be able to go, let me check my diary." If you are keen, then GEAR UP AND LETS GO!:tasdevil:
"There's gonna be one speed...MINE. If you can't keep up, don't step up or you'll just die." Richard B Riddick.

From experience make sure everyone has plenty of water especially when hiking a person requires at least 2 litres of water per day

Actually I was going to drive them into the desert for 2 days with no water and see how they fair...:rofl::poke:
No safety reminder is a bad or unwelcome one Trev.

I drink at least 2 litres(8 glasses) of water a day, and I am sitting down most of the time.
For hiking, I'd say 5 litres per day sounds more like it.
TrevorW
30-01-2010, 10:20 AM
You drink way to much water for someone sitting down
if you;ve got a 2 day hike and there's no way to refresh your water supply you try carrying 10 litres of water

PS:
If you're THAT keen on forced-marches, you can come and check my electric fencing. We've got steep, impenetrable gullies full of deadly creatures and chocking flora to challenge the hardiest of ramblers :D

WOW! If you guys are all having so much fun with the topic, then the actual walk is going to be a riot! See you all there hey? Looks like you will be able to teach me a few things. Don't forget that water hey?:poke:
And no sherpas. If one of you has a sherpa then you have to bring enough for everyone.:P
Did someone say 5 litres for a day walk!???? OMGosh 2 is usually PLENTY for me for such a short trip.:eyepop:
Did I mention I was going to run it as a boot camp? Prolly shouldn't hey?;)

Capital idea! And we mustn't forget the cucumber sandwiches, to which I am exceedingly partial. Ahh reminds me of 62 in B-yerh-ma. Simons and his band of scalawags were on the left flank and driving up the centre was old man Lazenby. Hey I say ol bean, what ever happened to Caruthers. Nasty business that. Did they ever catch that hippo.

He must be speaking the local dialect. I think he's saying he'd like to come. Good! He'll be useful. Good man to have around in case the natives get restless.

Keep your eye on this topic and I'll let you know with a firm date soon. As I said, at this stage it will be mid to late Feb.
I am going up there for a just a drive recon today, so I'll take a few snapshots and write a report here.
Glad to have you along Daniel, good man.

Pity I am in Tassie, or I'd chuck the G11 on my back and join y'all. Wife can carry the C11 in her day pack and the kids can haul the dang batteries... who-ra :D

When walking the Bibbulmun track for a one night 2 day walk one must carry equal parts water to red wine or port and a nice cuban to have around the camp fire after a appertising meal
Remember also the cardinal rule what goes(said) on the walk stays on the walk
One must also remember to pack the required toiletries
Cheers

Hmmm...port for me, not wine. Cigar...I'd love to as I used to, but I have tossed the habit for 5 years now.
Toiletries... just some bog-roll. ;)

Hah. I coulda toldja that.:P
Love the dragonfly. Nice of him to pose so nicely for his portrait.
Its a special part of Australia up there' absolutely love it. Over the other side of Ginini is also very pretty with good camping to be had on the Goodradigbee right down in the valley. Sounds like your trip will be a ripper and good luck.

What did you do to Mt Bogong?? Whatever it was I hope it recovers. :P
Seriously, I know what you mean about being above the tree-line. I've recently been to Mt Buller and Mt Stirling and the views were great. You feel like you can see forever - though in truth it may only be 100km. We also visited the famed Craig's Hut and could see why the location was chosen for the movie ..... the views are to die for. Of course a real hut would never be situated where there is no water nearby.
I won't be going on any hikes however. These days a easy km or two from the 4WD is about my limit.

There's nothing wrong with that mate. You can walk miles and shoot nothing. You can step off your back porch and shoot a masterpiece.
