Has anyone found any good sites that will show cloud cover? Ive checked the one under weather links here, but it shows all clear when its cloudy as out there at the mo. Can't see a single thing.
Have you tried this one? I think it's the best one for clouds at the moment.

Melbourne has by far the worst climate in the nation, and Skippysky's cloud forecasts are disturbingly accurate (when it predicts clouds, naturally). Not only is it cloudy 100% of the time, but any clear nights, even in mid summer, are unbeleivably cold. Case in point...last week I was out, had to wear a thick woolen jumper to stay comfortable, and the dew was horrendous. To say I hate the weather here with a passion doesn't even come close.... I could write a 10 volume encyclopedia about the disgustingness of the weather here.
I went to Renmark in early Jan and didn't see a single cloud for the entire 5 days...and it was WARM!!!! Try getting warmth and sunshine in Melbourne in summer.....
As soon as I graduate, I'm moving to *anywhere else* in this country.
:lol: i was waiting for you to come in PGC :P

Skippysky is a good one. But I gave up years ago of planning my hobbies around Melbourne weather. I don't put anymore effort into it than looking at the western sky in the late afternoon.

This time of year even looking West doesn't help.
With the afternoon sea breeze the clouds come in from the Southeast at my place, but basically anywhere over the bay.
You can see the clouds forming over my place. I hate this time of year, beautiful cloudfree days, but as soon as the sun goes down and the atmosphere cools, clouds.
More prevailing Northerlies overnight, but only a zephyr.
Cheers

My house is on a hill looking to the south, and you can actually see the stuff forming. If I see distant cloud on the horizon, I don't set up, as I learnt the hard way. By 10-11pm its all over red rover.
Yep that's how I do it ;)
If the western sky is red, you're dead
If the western sky is white, you're alright!

I don't like what I'm seeing in Skippysky. Never ending clouds over Sydney for as long as Skippy can see :help: So far, since Monday, I've managed two very short glimpses though my new scope. Looks like I'll be waiting to go outside and play in the night for a few days yet.
Thanks for that site James, hadnt heard of it before.
Looks like ALL of QLD is about to go under :rain::rain::rain:

We should be proud of our Melbourne sky's. Not many other city's has such a complete cloud cover. We are fortunate to have that nasty bright blue sky nicely shielded by cloud.

Dont feel too bad guys I live in the border area which is renowned for being cloud free but living at the end of the valley and at the bottom of the valley we experience a better than average cloud cover and when there is no cloud and no wind here, the wind is howling overhead above the hills and wipes out seeing. Very good FWHM figures for here are about 5 or 6.
I think I need to move out onto the plains somewhere.

I moved to Marnoo from Melbourne. I have a clear, clean dark sky's 98% of the time. I get more sun here than Queensland.

Sab - I was setting upto take some lunar shots in the balcony just now. It was slightly cloudy so I went away for 10 min only to realize it started raining. Drenched the OTA and the mount :(
Four weeks of 'wall-to-wall' cloud just north of Mackay until Monday. Well, it is 'the wet'. Up to 14 inches of rain in the Pioneer Valley in one night.:eyepop:
Cheers, Bobj.

Ouch! Hope your equipment is okay.
I've had several nightmares where that happened to me  Whenever you see cloud coming, do not turn your back ;)

Finally the Sydney weather forecast is showing the possibility of good weather for early next week. I've had fun tidying the wiring, mounting the guidescope and guider and generally fussing around with the setup for the last 2 weeks or so. However, I really would like to start using it now!!! :cloudy:

It should be fine the OTA had the cover on and I cleaned it quickly afterwards. The EQ6 is built like a tank and a quick rub of the towel took off most of the water.

It's been raining for 2 weeks here so far. I'm going to build an Ark and get two of every type of telescope on board! :rain:

That's my grand plan. Hopefully I can get a couple of those humongous Orion 50" dobs to give birth to a 25 incher or two :D

We've had about 60mm of rain since the time sunset was alleged to happen. That's about 100mm today.
Plus the 20mm yesterday afternoon.
We are used to children being bigger than their parents. My son at 195cm is about 15cm taller than me. So I'd expect a pair of 50" should be good for a few 55-60" children.

Would the gentlemen or gentlewomen, conspiring to incrementally purchase cloud inducing telescope gear in Brisbane, please refrain?
Your high tech rain dance has officially washed out my parade :)

I think that 7timer A-panel (Astrowether panel) is great for cloud cover foresting. Here is the link to the Astroweather page http://7timer.y234.cn/V3/product.php?language=en&product_id=1 just put in your location, you can select your suburb or provide your exact longitude and latitude. 7timer A-panel provides a cloud work function (CWF) and the local cloud cover.
Cheers.

We've just had the garage under water again, and tonight's rain isn't supposed to be as bad as Saturday and Sunday.

I was hoping for Melbourne's weather here in Dallas Texas. We've been snowed in for the past 16 hours. Slept in the Airport, no hotels available.
