Not happy Jan.
Being a stinker of a day I had to open all the windows to keep cool. So I'm doing a bit of a spring clean, doing a damn fine job of dusting everything and oiling all the wood work.
I had just put all the cleaning gear away when a humungous willy willy comes across the paddock opposite me, full of straw from the stables, dried horse poop and of course loads of dust.
It ran straight into my house. :mad2: Right through the open french doors, through every open window across the front. All the fly screens were wide open too.

Damn.

Set up temp observatory in my back yard 5 weeks ago....
Cloudy for 4 eeks and 6 days....
Brought scope inside, clear night....
Open curtains and windows to take a peak at Mars....
10 minutes later .... Cloudy....
WTF!!!

Well, it was a pretty cool looking willy willy Eric. More than 40mt high, judging from the trees outside, and 8mt wide maybe. But the big chunks of straw!!! I half expected to see a small cow or a wicked witch spinning around inside it.
I was at the french doors when it hit. So I copped the full brunt of it.
Awesome experience.
except for the state of the house. sigh....

Proof that cleaning is pointless, coz it's all just gonna be back to square one the next day, or in this particular case, the next second :P

I know how you must feel JJJ, we had the same experience when those dust storms blew over a few months back.

We had just finished spring cleaning inside and out then everything turned red including the cat.

Red dust is worse though isn't it.
It stains and gets into every nook and cranny.

Ric

We are still finding bits that we missed even now.

JJJ:
Through bitter experience I've concluded that dusting & sweeping, in the traditional sense, is just a waste of time.
Now I open the windows in the dust-affected area, give the flat surfaces a once-over and then blow the lot out into space with an electric lawn blower.
Quick vacuum of any detritus and, bang, you're done!
Lawn equipment is highly under-rated for houskeeping IMO. :D

jjjnettie
29-01-2010, 12:02 PM
Oh Peter, I agree with you completely with that.
I kept my doors and windows open after the earlier farce, and most of the dust was blow away by semi gale force winds later in the day.
A quick wipe and vacuum today will finish it off.
Another garden implement that has seen use in my house is a plastic garden rake and shovel.
It takes only seconds to rake up all the lego, cars, pencils, books etc that the kids have left scattered all over the lounge room floor. Rake it up and shovel it into the toy box.

jjjnettie

yes, I'm surrounded by storms atm. A huge one is about to hit. Pretty speccy looking too.
The clouds are greenish and the wind is cold. Might be hail.
