Seagull's Head

I managed to get some decent sky the other night, and wanted to try something different to run through with Zone System. :)
I'm not overly happy with it, as for some reason I had a bit of coma creep into the left side and I screwed up the star layer a bit.:mad2:

I dunno Gray..that looks pretty good to me :shrug:

Little things like slight star elongation and the like are way overrated to me, these things, when they are only slight, are really only nit picking concerns, the colour and beauty are more important.

Looks like you had some fun, incidentally, this may be my next FOV next new moon, I have never imaged the Seagull before, so I am looking forward to the challenge :thumbsup:

I thought it was a relatively easy object to image, the detail came in easy enough, so you should do well. Cheers and clears!:)

Looks good to me Graham. The head is by far the nicest part of this nebula and you have captured it very well. Stars look good to me although after having my eyes tested yesterday and getting a pretty bad report you better listen to others first.
I like it. Well done.

A nice shot, and I am thinking you are joking when you suggest this is an easy object. I just spent a few hours, with Ha, trying this and it certainly wasn't easy.

Thanks! I was actually serious about imaging it and saying easy. 2hrs40mins of 10min frames in my QHY8 from suburban Adelaide, from just past the meridian to just on the roof of my granny flat. Did a 5 min test image and settled on 10 min frames.:eyepop:



He, he, I hate the Optometrist. Always bad news with that bloke. Always another $400 too!!

Graham, I think you have done a very good job of this object!
Colours look pretty darn good to me and if you're imaging from suburban skys, well great effort... stars are a little soft but that's to be expected with being in the city plus crappy air conditions this time of the year..

Great pic of the head of the seagull!

I have done a pic of the whole seagull last year. I remember how difficult the processing was. So I have to show you my respect!

Nice processing with very little noise evident. The brighter stars are a little saturated but nothing too distracting. Colour is good and as I remember this target. You could do some selective sharpening to the dark dust lane but this is only a preference thing for me. Overall I reckon this is a good image of this target. Maybe more subs for signal increase.
