Hi all,

this is my first attempt at using a off axis guider on the 14" SCT to imrove tracking. I only got 1 x 5 minute exposure due to cloud comming in. The tracking in this image is a lot better than what I got on my last Crab image where a guide scope was used.

Took a while to find a guide star, and had to use the maximum exposure of 10 seconds on the Orion Starshoot auto guider to get a bright enough star.

This is with the 14" at f6.3 and Astro 40D at iso 800.

Only one 5 minute, looks pretty good Lester. Your stars do look pretty good over the 5 minutes so maybe you have struck paydirt with this method.

Look forward to seeing the same but with longer and more exposures.
Well done.

Thanks Doug, it may be a while before I can get back to it, with another week of shearing and 5 A.M starts, the late nights are a No-No. Or I will turn into a Zombie = Not good.

All the best.

I echo Doug's comments - good image for just 5 minutes exposure, and you also managed to successfully trial your new off-axis guider before the clouds spoiled the night !
One question - is that a picture of the shearing shed on your avatar ? Where do the sheep go in ?

Hi David; wish it was the shearing shed, as the ventilation with roll off roof is much better.

All the best.
