View Full Version here: : Two satetlites crossing
Did anyone just see two satellites crossing path south of Orion. One heading south to north and the other heading east to west. They crossed path in the same point in the sky. Would have been a great photo. Never seen this before. The sat. passed over about 9.15pm.

Sounds like they need space traffic controllers up there:anaut:

I've seen this happen a few times, usually they near miss but it actually happens quite alot. Given the amount of tech up there, its not suprising.
Its when they converge and then either dissappear or turn into twenty satellites moving in different directions that things get interesting.... and yes, I do watch out for that and it would make one heck of a photo!!

I do a lot of satellite observing with bino's (My wife thinks I'm a bit sad, like a trainspotter), and quite often you will be following one sat when another crosses the FOV. Very occasionally you can follow one, then change to the interloper, then another.... most I've done is three.
Cheers,
Jason.

Hi Phil
I'd just gone outside with my binoculars, spotted the the satellite heading north east, got the bins on it just as the other one came into the field of view. I had a great view as they crossed paths - I even winced in anticipation of the collision !!
There were a few satellites visible just after this - I saw 4 more within 15 minutes before the mossies drove me back inside.
Cheers
Chris
