the Rosette nebula

this is my first Rosette nebula taken on the 15/01/10. 6 * 15 min exposures with canon 450D and SW ED 80mm. i was amazed when i saw how large this object is and how long of an exposure that was needed to see this object. looking at other examples i thought it would be very bright like m42 but i thought wrong. i hope you like it. processing tip are very welcome.

good tracking and focus too.
it looks like it could be a tad brighter to me.
perhaps an inverse selection around the stars by using select-highlights, then modify - expand 4 pix, then feather 2 pix, then inverse selection
then playing with levels or curves a bit or contrast might bring out the neb a bit more?
there's another way it can be done with highlights and Shadows as well
just a thought

Great image, it's amazing how big the Rosette is and the ED80 is the perfect scope to image it with.

Nice images Les. You can always improve the images by adding a bit more data to the stack. Also a little lift on the saturation will also make a diference.
Using an unmodded camera makes collecting the rich Ha data quite a lot harder than a modded camera.

I know exactly how you feel. Rosette was the 2nd object I ever tried a mosaic on after M42. Thought I could whack a handful of 3 min subs from the city together and stretch out some detail. I got "dumped" big time, but learned quite a lot in the process :lol:

Yours is wonderful with those 15mins subs.

This target is very very dim, and with an unmodded camera I can only imagine how difficult it would be to capture..
