Had a club Mars night planned for tonight, but the weather had other Ideas :(
So the car had its first wash & polish in ages & it was a good chance to go to a party :drink: and rave on about astronomy to unsuspecting guests :P
I think I have got a few extra taker's for our next viewing night ;)
This is how it looks here !

Yep ... Probably for the next 3 to 4 months on & off !
Viewing nights tend to be a bit impromptu at this time of year to fit the weather.

I don't have clouds... I have smoke and haze, and neighbours who won't turn their stupid flood lights off at night! :(

Floodlights ... grrr :mad2: , curse of the suburbs!
Step 1: Get to know your neighbours, preferably a few of them (unless they are completly horirible)
Step 2: Invite them over to look at some lovely Nebula/Galaxy.
Step 3: Explain to them how much better it would be without light pollution
Step 4: when they ask "what is light pollution?" you have them ;)
Hi Rowena - where abouts in Rocky are you?
My wife Leisa & I went up to Rocky in April with my 10" scope, spent 2 weeks staying at Henderson Park about 15k north of town. Was fabulous, and great seeing too!

No sense of adventure Ian, nothing like a bit of rain to keep the dust down and to clear the skies! There were some suitable moments in the early hours of this morning, limited though they were. It's just lucky we don't have too far to go to our dark site.
For those who don't know, Ian is his work position has the ability to have a significant influence on the light pollution emanating from Nhulunbuy, the design of street lighting, and a key to the local soccer club to turn off their lights on GAA club nights. An excellent appointee/committe position to have in any astronomy club!

It only rained when I got out of the car! :mad2:

Bird - I live in a suburb called Parkhurst.. which is just north of Central Qld Uni.
I have friends who live out at Glenlee... which is a 10 min drive north of the uni. They have invited me to bring my scope out one night! :) No idea where henderson park is.
Last night simon got his torch out to show me how good it was (aka justifying why he spent so much money on it)... but when he shone it up into the sky... the amount of haze that was there was really scary! I think haze will end up being my biggest problem. welcome to the country side!
ian send the rain down here to put out the fires! :)
