The Orion Nebula - excellent article

Wikipedia is one of my most visited resources on the net. The number and quality of the articles on astronomy is amazing. I think it blows all other online encyclopedias to the weeds!

can you see the colour of itwith an 8" dob?

You wont be able to see any vivid colour like in the photographs but if you get to a dark site you can see a green tinge to it.
Through my telescope i can see a quite an apparant green hue in good seeing conditions.

I'm assuming that if one was to try and capture using the RGB filters one could build a colour image from the respective captive captures?

I'm no imager, but yes, if you have a monochrome camera, then imaging through each of the R-G-B channels will give you a colour composite. If you have a colour camera, only one exposure will be necessary. There are some nice articles in the Resources section of the site and a world of knowledge in the forum devoted to images.

Hi. As I only have a small scope (3") I don't see colour in the nebula so thought the use of RGB filters would work there. Can only give it a go to see how well it does

I use a 12" and the only colour I see is a greenish-grey tinge. Owners of much larger mirrors may see a bit more. Imaging with a camera on an EQ mount is the only way you will pick up those vivid colours.
