Another Brilliant Night

Well, two great nights in a row!!

Out last night early to get the scope set up and cooled down. Mars was sooooo clear I almost wished I had a camera that could take a shot through my scope :) It was still a bit low for really good viewing so I swung over to the Megellanic clouds. Spent ages in 47Tuc and could resolve stars that I had never previously seen near the centre. A cruize around the SMC grabbed a few clusters. Over to the LMC starting with the Tarantula Nebula, what a sight!! Another cruize through the LMC turned up sooo many clusters, its amazing to see stars and clusters in another galaxy. Really need to get a good map of this area. Ended up with a sore right eyeball so a rest was needed.

Left the scope out under a garbag and went inside for an hour to wait for Mars to get higher. Out again and it was simply so brilliant and clear, real detail even if it is getting visually smaller now I have had two nights in a row of the best views I have had this season.

After all the cloudy weather it only takes a couple of nights like this to get you going again.

spent the night splitting doubles in orion and surrounds :)
had fun but the seeing wasnt great here.

whilst star testing. i amazed to find so many doubles. No that I am getting better at collimation, i can wait for gamma2d next year.

are there say 2 or 3 different colour doubles or triples you want to throw my way?

Rob, I have the Herald-Bobroff Astro Atlas. I have scanned 'parts of' a couple of the 'E' charts which show the LMC in great details. The prob. is that the scans lose res if I resize then below about 200k. If you want the 4 sections let me know & I can email them. (978kb, 390kb, 420kb & 538kb). Might give you something to work with. Tried to get overlaps but stuck for space on scanner. (only A4). :D L.

Yes! SMC LMC are back in a good possy again. One of this month objects the Seagul
neb' sits not far from the Tarantula neb'. All special to us southerners :)

Actually I find the whole area packed with interesting objects. So make
sure you have a scan around with a low powered wide FOV ep.
