Hi all.

Got a half hour break between the clouds last night, & managed to capture mars. (thanks weather gods:prey2: )

I'm real happy about the details I got, but not happy about the un-natural colours I'm getting! Gotta be 'achro refractor induced' Oh well.

I'm reprocessing it again to see if I can't get a more natural look.

I experimented with the toucam last night ie: turned up the gain to about 35% white balance on auto, saturation 15% because it looks like crap on the screen if I give it 80% like everyone suggests...Is this wrong??:confuse3:

4 mins AVI @ 5 FPS = 1200 frames...hand picked about 200 of the best & stacked.

It looks undersaturated.. I think you should leave saturation at 50% or above. I usually have mine at 90%.

Also do you have a UV/IR filter Asimate?
With the filter on you should be able to crank up the saturation.

But I could be wrong, still learning too.

Yeah...I suspected this (not enough saturation) Was just waiting for a guru to verify what I might have done wrong, thanks Mike! I'll give that a shot, if it wasn't for this damn weather, I could take several AVIs at different settings to work all this out myself.

Andrew No UV/IR filter, but I have a baader contrast booster & a fringe killer :confuse3:

I tried full saturation in registax but the central planet details turned bright purple (yuck)....but I'm guessing it's too late to try that AFTER the fact in software, needs to happen at the time of capture? :confuse2:

Hi Asi - you've done well getting that much detail through a 6in acro :) - I've just posted last nights results through the same scope in another thread here and I haven't been able to get the same level of detail or as natural a colour. I'm running in raw mode and having some troubles with that too so hard to know what's what. On reflection I might have to come down a bit in saturation toward where you are imaging now.

BTW I'd reckon that the fringe killer you're using would do the trick as it has almost indentical band pass characteristics as the IR/UV (it just kills a bit more UV).

Nice shot!! even if a lil undersaturated. Not as undersaturated as mine though,
due to weather and laziness... hmmmm can I still blame the weather...

Me need shed, wif PC, EQ mount, easily removable roof...etc...etc...

Yep looks good to me, it's got lots of detail considering theres' no manipulation.

:) Nice work mate....being a ToUcam newbie ive started off with brightness 40% with frame rate either 1/25 or 1/33 and gain 40% , gamma 10% and Saturation as high as i can..... :P

Hi.
Just cropping in that one Robert...apart from the standard waveletts/contrast/brightness etc in registax. I was a lot more picky on which frames I stacked this time around. A stack of 101 frames out of a total of 1200. I don't rely on registax's auto settings. Takes time to hand pick every damn frame but it's worth it in the long run. All I need is a couple of clear nights to do some more tests re: the saturation/colour problem. If I get it right, I'll let you know how I did it, Don't worry!
