They were 206 runs ahead after first innings.....the way they threw the game away in the second innings was shameful.

They certainly lost the game! A very lucky win for the Aussies!

The Aussies have done similar in the past chasing small 4th innings totals.

Just goes to show that its not over until it's over (I admit I thought we were gone, even on day 1 - lol).

pressure, you have a reasonably young inexperienced team playing the best side in the world.

Nope.

We're currently ranked third best Test team in the world behind India and South Africa.

We're number one for ODI.

Best side, 3rd best side....they'll always be the best side in my book!
Remember Ashes game 2 2006/07..........that was one of the best tests i ever saw!
Australia did it again!

Yes, we're pretty ordinary in many games now, a far cry from where we were a few years ago. However the best of the rest are pretty hot & cold too.

Hi All,

While they wern't so hot on the first day, credit where credit is due, Australia were superb today. They only won one day of this Test and in the end it was the only day that counted.

On the other hand, Pakistan were absolutely abysmal today. They lost this game in the first session this morning by sitting back and expecting it to fall into their laps. Then, this afternoon they did a brilliant job of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. In my books, they were always a good chance of getting the colliwobbles.

Yesterday, just after the tea break when we were effectively 4 down for 7, Glenn McGrath on ABC radio predicted we'd win my 37 runs -- in the end we won by 36. Where are those commentators and journalists who were suggesting only a month-odd ago that Mike Hussey should be dropped from the test-team? Feasting on crow me-thinks!

Best,

Les D

Leave Collingwood alone:lol:
At least they made finals - what the Pakis did today was far worse than anything the mighty Pies have done!

Well maybe if the Pakistani cricket team had a wicket keeper who can catch a ball the ending would be different. Mike Hussey was dropped 4 times. 4 TIMES!!! Are you serious? Need I say more?

Yep....and sharing it with a massive number of everyday sports fans who likewise were calling for his head.

Sure...he had a good second innings (dropped 4 times, though) but he's been fairly average of late too. Not that he's Robinson Crusoe in that regard!

have you seen how the ranking system works Matt? we are number one by a mile.

Not according to the official International Cricket Council (ICC) website I've been looking at, Mick. Certainly not according to their Test rankings.

Maybe you're looking at an overall standing which includes Test, one-day international and 20-20 standings, or the ODI list rather than the Test standings alone?

Try this link or see the attached screen shot:

http://icc-cricket.yahoo.net/match_zone/team_ranking.php

Can you post a link to what you're looking at?

Anyway....it was a great finish and will do wonders for the confidence of some of the 'transition' players like Hauritz and Siddle who are trying to establish themselves in the side.

Hi Everyone

After Pontings' and Husseys' irresponsible shots to lose their wickets in our 1st innings, I was ready to call for their heads , the Pakis played well for the first 3 days, all over us, but their tactics today were mystifying. Why they didn't surround Hussey and Siddle and really put pressure on our tail end batsmen during the 1st session today and then when they get a sniff, drop 4 catchs, they only have themselves to blame unfortunately.
The big moment, to me, was Hauritz' brave caught & bowled of the Pakis' captain, if that chance wasn't taken , the Pakistanis probably would've won. After that the inexperienced middle order and tail end batsmen couldn't hold their nerve and capitulated with an unseemly lack of fortitude and the game was ours.
Don't you just love summer and the cricket on tele, almost as good as Parramatta and the Swans winning their respective premierships this year.

Regards

Jeff

I also could't beleive it.:eyepop: I thought we gone after day one, even up till midday today. Some sloppy fielding and loose batting cost them the game.

Cannot agree more with you. The odds for an Aussie win after the first innings must be very mouth-watering.....

As I said in another thread the game still had a lot of twists and turns left in it.

There is something about the Sydney wicket, it can change in a matter of hours and go from batsmans paradise to a bowlers dream.

Good on Australia I think they worked hard for it and applied the pressure at the right time.

Of course a bit of luck went their way as well.

Cheers

Hi All, :)

The current Australian Team is not as consistent as the one of five years ago.
The Ashes were lost to England because Australia did not play well at crucial times. Even though its accepted that Australia was the better team.

Now they have played in the same vein with the Pakistan Team. The Aussies are lacking the consistency factor. The talent is there and improving consistency will mean Australia will go from a good team to a great team.

Bring on the Poms. ;)They won't be as lucky this time.;)

Cheers Marty

Good on them anyway.
Any win is a good win.

They never are out here. I see they're up to their ball tampering tricks again as well;)
