M1 Crab

Hi all,

been trying this object over the past few nights with the 14" SCT at F6.3 and Astro 40D camera at iso 800.

Using an Orion Star shoot auto tracker, and still trying to improve the tracking. It is shooting through an FS102. Tried it with an 2.5x barlow, but that didn't improve the tracking. I thought it would.

That's a good image there Lester, I must have a go of this object some day. What FL was this image taken at?

Hi Michael, this image was taken at 2200mm FL.

Not a bad image. What mount are you using and how long are the subs that you are taking?

The outer nebuloist is clearly evident (strands). Thats good for this target!

Thanks for your comments everyone. This image was a composite of 6 x 5 minute subs at iso 800 with Astro 40D camera. Using a Losmandy Titan mount. Still tweeking the PHD adjustments to improve tracking.

Nice image Lester, The big scope certainly produces the goods.
Guiding always seems to be problem even with the high end mounts but once the settings are sorted it is great. Good luck with this task.

Lots of detail in the nebula itself. You need a bit of narrow band to highlight the detail in the core.

Thanks Doug for your comments. Narrow band, is that how others get the finer detail?

It seems to be the only way to penetrate to the core. Ha and OIII seems to be the way to go.
