I was checking out Spaceweather tonight and they had this interesting article below.

VENUS AND NUNKI: When the sun goes down tonight, step outside and look south. See that star very close to Venus? That's Nunki, a blue giant 224 light years from Earth. Nunki is five times wider than the sun and 3300 times more luminous. To receive the same heat, an Earth circling Nunki would have to be located beyond the orbit of Pluto. Venus will be gliding by Nunki tonight and tomorrow.

So I have snaped an image of the trio. Venus in the middle  with Nunki in the upper right and Phi Sagittarii bottom left.

Canon 300D, 400 ISO, 2 sec exp,f/5.6, at 400mm.

Cheers

sunspots cause blackouts cause martians to fall from the sky inside lightning bolts and jump start their machines that are hidden under the earth.

you should have known that from school ol Rocket G Wells!

You sound like the lyrics off that ol' "Blondie" song.... :scared:

It's true BTW about the Martians I read it in the National Enquirer (oh no wait that's another movie - "Citizen Kane"), I got my "Wells" mixed up.

Hey nice one Dave. They're even closer together tonight.
I can also see a slight blue hue in Nunki. Excellent.

Was that at 500mm?

Venus and Nunki were closest last night (Friday). It was interesting that Nunki was easier to see during the twilight, even though you had to wait until it was dark to see the rest of the teapot. After dark the glare of Venus made seeing the nearby 2nd magnitude star a little difficult.
