Color Rosette

I said I would do a color Rosette, so here is my attempt from last night...

not to bad, the data is there, maybe try a more aggressive Levels/curves combinations to bring it up.

As suggested, the data is there. Perhaps a little too dark and the background is too black. Great focus and guiding, by the looks.:thumbsup:

Thank you Brendan and Decepticon... I am almost ready to give up on the ED80 and C8 on fainter objects from my location. I think I will give the newt a go next. I am also thinking of getting a QHY8 or QHY9... wish me luck... I am gonna need it!

the rosette nebula isn't that faint, and the ED 80 captures it well trust me on that one!

That was a quick try at the rose when my guiding was going all over the show, fixed that now so i will attempt it again!

IMO taking the image is about 20% of the final product

80% is in the processing and for some it takes years to master it as it isn't an exact science some images require more and different techniques.

The 40d is a great camera! I loved mine, but sold it just to get a cooled cam for the hot weather. Shame really, I miss it now.:sadeyes:
The QHY8 is a great camera and you probably wouldn't be disappointed by a QHY9, just extra work to capture the colour data if your climate is a bit unpredictable, which is why I chose one shot colour over another monochrome cam, so I can get a result in one night.
If you are in the city, you just need to work out what you can and can't image. Both of those scopes can and will do well, it is just patience and experience. Don't give up, and remember, you only have to please yourself, not everyone else. Don't lose touch of the personal side of imaging.;)

Changed the image format to large raw and transferred the images using cf card instead of usb cable. This is the result...Much happier:)

Nice image Rob, you might want to pay a little more attention to the histogram while processing this image. You appear to have clipped all 3 colours at the black end a bit and may well have lost a lot of the fainter data you captured. It is always better to use selective sharpening and smoothingthan to just remove the faint stuff by darkening the background.

Im glad you figured out what the problem was mate :) you had me worried with the square stars for a moment!

sometimes the way you actually pre process your images can make a massive difference.

Also noticed some focuser slop in the upper left of the image. Time to attack the adapter with some felt tape...
