Hi all
After an eternity of bad weather, finally last night was not only clear but very clear and dark for Newcastle.

Heres the Horsehead area, 6x10 mins ISO 400, with Baader UHCS filter and Idas UV IR filter. 300mm f2.8 lens from Bert, stopped down to f4 with an external aperature stop.

Thanks all
A couple of hours on that area from a dark site would really allow the lens to stretch its legs :)

Ive noticed some stars right at the top look a little soft, that seems to me an error in the stacking with deep sky stacker, as the subs are tack sharp

I knew you would work wonders last night when I saw how clear the sky was. Thanks for another beauty Scott!

This image is really pretty good but shows so much more potential, it is certainly a unique perspective but you just gotta get your gear out to a truly dark sky, you are capable of producing some stunners with that lens mate but I fear the light polution just keeps killing you .

Scott putting an aperture in front of the lens has worked very well in blocking all light not contributing to the image. The faint stuff has come up really well. The faint blue neb name IC 423? at top left is clearly visible. A lot of faint stars also quite visible. The dim dust would be even better from a dark sky site.

Looks really good Scott.

Yes Bert, the external aperature stop is a great idia as you suggested, it blocks any unwanted light from entering the lens rather than stopping it at the iris after it has passed through the optical elements.

Yes that is indeed IC 423, I hope to re image that area but recomposed to better show those faint blue blobs

If ever I can get to a dark site the lens will be the "weapon of choice" for widefield imaging to a much fainter level.
