Well after reading a lot of posts on here about flocking I was brave, and bored it's been overcast here for 11 straight days, and went out to Spotlight and bought 2 sheets of selfadhesive black felt and flocked around the secondary mirror.
Seeing I have a collapsable scope it was really easy, will I see any improvement?, will have to wait and see.

Peter.

Give it a good vacuum so loose fibres don't come off onto your optics?

It will increase contrast dramatically.

Well after all the rain we've had I had a great nights viewing last night, everything seemed clearer and brighter, not sure if the sky was really clean or my flocking or the fact that I got my Cheshire collimation gizmo and readjusted everything so its spot on, to my eye anyway, I don't know why I'm still persisting with my next to useless laser collimator.

I recently did the same with my UTA and the improvement was amazing. I would emcourage others to follow suit.

I did the inside of my 10" dob with thick matt black paper from the local newsagents and noticed the improvement although I might try fitting a few baffle rings down the tube as well.

How will flocking the upper OTA on a truss compare with baffling the focuser tube (as seen in a AS&T article a little while back)?

I bought a couple of metres of Sullivans black "Sticko Felt" (90cm wide) from Spotlight today. Some of it will be used to make a light/dew shield for my 8" Dob., but there should be enough left over to line the entire OTA - if I feel brave enough to pull it apart. :D
