Hi all

I've been on holidays for the last 8 days or so, so haven't been around much. Have checked in from time to time but really only a 5 minute quick visit to check email and check the weather :)

We stayed at Birubi Beach again this year, which is a lovely spot up near Nelsons Bay. We stayed there last year and had mostly great weather, so I was able to capture a lot of great shots (http://www.mikesalway.com.au/tag/birubi-beach), but unfortunately this year we had terrible weather.

It rained most of the days, and the days it didn't rain it was just drab and cloudy. It was day 5 before we saw the first glimmer of sunlight, and that was for 2 minutes just before it set and was then covered by clouds again. We had one hot sunny day, and did the walks around the top of Tomaree Head out near Shoal Bay, including seeing the WW2 gun emplacements.

I didn't get a lot of photography done, but yesterday Jacob and I did a 3-hour tour of the Sand Dunes which took in Tin City, the Sygna shipwreck, some sandboarding, some old WW2 defence sites, and caught/released some pippi's. So finally took a few photos during that tour.

We had a nice holiday but the weather was just terrible. The kids didn't seem to mind too much and the girls were in the pool every day still.

Saw "Old Dogs" and "Planet 51" at the movies. Old Dogs is a classic! Very funny :)

I hope everyone had a nice xmas and new years. I have a few more days off before heading back to work on Wednesday, which will be spent in the garden and mowing and weeding the jungle that's grown outside with all this rain.

I look forward to catching up with some threads and looking at all the pics.

I'll hopefully post a few pics in the next few days.

My daughter's boyfriend took us on a run up Stockton Beach last year in his 4WD. It seems to go forever (32 kms). Tin City is a rather odd structure stuck out in the sand dunes. I think the location was used in the film Mad Max.
The most unnerving part of the sand dunes, which can be quite high, is driving over the top and not knowing how steep it is on the other side. :D

Regards, Rob.

Had a similar break. Mixed weather but being more south I got 4 good days out of 6. Didn't stop my daughter from being in the water 24/7 though. :) Was still good to relax and get out of the rat race for a while.

Hi Mike, good to see you had a great holiday with your family. It's what we all need sometimes to recharge the batteries.

Cheers
