Yep i am using Alan's data taken with his "new" modded canon 350D, the 80mm york ed80 scope i won at astrofest last year on Als EQ6 guided. Taken in light polluted newcastle, iso400 with 3 minutes shots for 1 hours worth of data stacked in Deep Sky stacker, processed entirely with Pixinsight 1.59.


oh for clear skies - and i want this damn wet weather to go so i can dig the footings for the pier and the deck of the observatory and get my own data

Yeh, not bad for Newie indeed....

This long term rain will make the ground nice and soft for when you do have to dig though...as long as you do it as soon as this weather passes - next week probably, so good excuse to use for the boss :thumbsup:

Come up quite nicely David. Maybe a little soft looking.
I have bought a copy of PI but haven't had the time to try it as yet but if this is anything to go by I had better get my backside into gear, do a stop rain dance and capture a photon or two and give it a try.

try it on some of your existing data Doug, you will be surprised. usually i use the stacked raw file or a copy of the autosave file from DSS. you can do the same from IP if you want;) PS the softness was some high cloud on the night - thats my excuse ;)

One thing that concerns me with your pier though Dave. What happens when the ground finally dries out? How much shrinkage will occur? Will it make the pier unstable??

i intend on using well over 1cubic metre in the base of the pier 32MPA concrete thinning to the pier mount point, so i am hoping that a 1x1m base will be sufficient, the pier is adjustable at the head - you saw the prototype at astrofest last year JJJ;). as for the cloud it was streaming through some shots - you can see the effect in the image

Image look nicely processed and not clipped :D

I see that the bright stars are inverted , i presume you used HDR wavelets!
A star mask would help stop that :thumbsup:

To cheer you up its snowing here in the uk , not a clear sky to be seen :shrug:

Of course a field flattener would help , have you looked at any

yes you nailed it in one OBEONE - not knowing enough to really process it properly - i have made several mistakes. that's why we have you to make another video;):D:thanx: on the topic.
