Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 17.5" dob, and I find I could really do with a band-saw to cut out the clamps I need. The holes for them are no problem, but I could do with some help to cut the clamps out of the panel of ply-wood. They are made out of 30mm hardwood ply, and no cut is longer than 30cm.

If there is someone with access to a bandsaw in Sydney that can help, please let me know. I'm located in Maroubra.

Thanks very much,

Mental.

I have an old bandsaw at the back of the garage.....if I can get through all the junk to get it. Have not used it for a while, so not sure how well it is working. Also have a jigsaw. Mind you, the petrol to pick up and return a borrowed jigsaw is more than these things are usually worth !You are welcome to borrow the bandsaw or jigsaw. It is located at Bondi, but I could take it to the Ashfield workplace.

Hi Alex,

Out of concern, if you have the use of a bandsaw somewhere, just take extra care if not used to them.

Always use a pusher stick for close work around the running blade, and when taking the work past the blade. Make sure the adjustable throat (if it has one) is closed down to a bit more than the thickness of the material.

Sorry if I sound like Aunt Dorothy :hi:

Cheers

I have a Ryobi jigsaw, but I find that the blade wonders around, not giving me a square cut. Now, I'm not sure if it is my poor handleing of the tool, hence my preference for a bandsaw.

Thank you for the offer of the jigsaws, but I'll have a look first at Space Oddity's bandsaw. If it doesn't go well, I'll look at the jigsaw options.

Geoff, I'll keep your words up-front in mind when using the bandsaw. No Aunt Dorothy if it keeps my fingers on my hands.

Space Oddity, please PM me your details.
