Gibraltar Creek - a healthy environment

Humayun and I are giving Gibraltar creek a bit of a hammering this week. After new years eve's morning shoot in the Murrumbidgee, I decided to go back up to the mountains and do a proper recon of the creek from Wood-Park.

I hopped straight into the creek bed and goat-bounded up through all the pretty spots, just taking snaps in the harsh light on full auto so we could make some decisions on where to shoot when the light was right.

We went back up there around 6pm this last evening, making a bee-line straight for the moving water. The water is increadibly sweet to taste and refreshing. There are frogs (usually the first to go in a bad environment) and plenty of reptiles. Yesterday I saw blue dragonflies and a full-cammo brown and white combat dragonfly, but the elite soldier was too fast for this old soldier, so no photograph I'm afraid.

Here's a selection of my lot with the Canon 400D, 18-55 lens. ISO 100 for the water shots at F/16 to F/11, 5 seconds up to 30 seconds as it got darker. Full auto with built in flash for the critters. Moonscape shot was a full minute.

Great captures Barry, the waterfall looks very vibrant with the deep colours.

Rod, it's a bit overgrown with high horizons out there in the creek, but there are a lot of lovely dark sites out there, endless in fact. Some of my best MW widefields have been from out there.

As mentioned yesterday, you have a knack for good compositions, and, I'm really pleased to see these results. The framing and composition of the final shot is a corker. Please print that out and hang it on one of your walls.
