:hi: Season's Greetings

Spent a night of imaging totally on deep cycle battery power (no power at Golden grove atm). It was a good test to see if the setup would work with my power hungry laptop. The inverter started to complain low voltage just as the sun rose, I may not be so lucky during cold winter nights though.

Ended up imaging the Seagull nebula, well... only the head with my FOV.

Thanks for looking :D

Beautifully coloured image! Very smooth..

how big is your battery? and how much gear do you run off it in the field? I'm looking to make a power box so I don't need mains power.. but I fear I'll need a MASSIVE battery to run all my power hungry gear!

Congratulations on a beautiful image

I agree with Alex this is a lovely subtle rendition, great job.

Given your restricted FOV I like the framing too

Lovely image. Great resolution and a very easy image on the eyes. Star colour, focus and guiding all look very good.

Well done.

Thanks everyone!!

I used a 75Ah deep cycle battery. My setup(laptop, 350D, EQ6, Starshoot guider) draws about 4.5~5A depending on what the laptop is doing. This used about approx 50% capacity after about 8hrs @ 20-15Celcius night.
I had the current draw measured through a benchtop PSU.
Hope this helps..

Dave,

This is a really difficult object to image. I know I've tried and failed miserably. Probably because I didn't have enough data.

I also like the framing you've presented here.

Well done.

Humayun

Hi Dave,

I have to agree with all the above comments. How do you connect the laptop to the battery to protect it against current surge. I would love to be able to do this as well. Congratulations.

WoW! IOTW!!:eyepop: only just noticed it when I logged on.
Thanks you all for your kind words, now I don't feel so guilty ordering the QHY9 today :D

you guys gave me some ammo when I break the news to my wife....:D:D:D

I run a 300W inverter from Jaycar to run the Laptop PSU and 350d PSU, I'm there's loss of efficiency but it seems to work well enough.
