Well, I managed to keep my new 8" dob intact and unwrapped until today. I took her outside about an hour ago (Its still quite light here in perth) .
First viewing wasnt impressive, all blue and looked all out of focus etc.........I kept tweaking and moving until..Bam!!! there was our moon filling my viewfinder in crystal clear sharpness, I literally said WOW out loud a few times.......Its incredible.............

Oh how I envy you (for now). I just placed my order today for my first scope a 8" dob as well, if you don't mind can I ask what you paid and what you received with it? What brand, what else have you looked at so far apart from the Moon?
Damn I cant wait.:eyepop:

Jeff, I brought it throught these forums second hand, but it has not been used and was in new condition, didnt even need collimating, I paid $400.00 for it so it was an absolute bargain. Its a sky Watcher and came with the scope, finder scope and two eyepieces. Tonight was the firast time ive used it and after my initial amazement, unortunately it clouded over so i havent been able to use it again, but theres always tomorrow :)

Welcome to the club Steve!
If you think that M42 was good the other night have another look on the next new moon night, it will blow you away. That scope sounds the same as mine (different mounting though) and it will give you years of enjoyment.
Hope the bank balance is good, this is only the begining!! :confused2:
