Macro Video

Hi all!

Thought I would go right out on a limb and try some macro video.
Well kind of.

No 7D here just the good ole' 350D.
Needed to use flash, so shutter times were slower than I would have liked. Will try again under better lighting, so I don't need to use flash as the end result is jerky at best.

Thought I would post my efforts, as I would love to see others give this a go.

F6.3 ( :rofl: :rofl: Just checked then,I shot this at 6.3, I thought it was still set at around f16..... funny funny, ok, I'll try this again with a bigger DOF. )

I'm sure I can do better than this... I'm saving for a 7D. :)

Anyway, I thought others might like to see.
This is my first attempt at this, freehand, with panning and tilting of the camera, no image stabilisation either.

Thanks mate! Not sure if it would cut "super", but it's not bad for an old DSLR. :)

I need to increase the shutter speed, this turned out way too jerky.

I'm not sure I understand. You call it video, but shot with 350D and flash was used. Do you mean it's a timelapse video? Must say it's a novel idea. I've never seen something like this for macro. Interested to see what else you come up with :)

Yes I termed it "video", as a timelapse video normal indicates it is a long period of time condensed into a short amount of time. This is a video with only minimal frames. It is shot in realtime, just not with as many frames as what a 7d would take, so it ends up jerky...

You are right though a "video", would normally be 16 frames per sec to be smooth, this is only about 1 frame per second condensed down to 16 fps. A "timelapse" would normally also be a fixed position shot, not with panning / movement of the camera.


Basically I am trying to mimic 7d video, but I need to up my shots / sec count.
Perhaps if I shot in burst mode...?

Awesome hey! I'm not sure if he is using a D90 or a 7d. The DOF gives a almost surreal look to it. Great stuff.
