View Full Version here: : Horse Head with 9.83 hours and now really completed

I gathered another 3 hours last night on the Horse head. It really kicked a lot of the noise out and improved the detail in the image. I am really happy with the image but the image brightness has taken a bit of a hit. The detail is comparible to RCOS telescopes. The more data I gather the greater the detail that is shown. These littel RC's are truely little wonders.

Starting to feel a bit like Sid, I hope you like this though. I just wanted to share this with you all and it proves one thing in my mind and perhaps others. Good images demand lots of time capturing data.
If you have some suggestions as to curtain brightness I would be happy to hear them.

Paul,
I don't think the curtain's brightness is the issue; is there any way for you to bring up detail/brightness in the darkness of the horse's head? If I can do it with a measly DSLR with 4 hours of exposure, then, surely you can do it with the extensive data you've captured, not to mention the super sensitivity of your CCD.
Other than that, looks tops.

Humayun

That's a top shot Paul. All this integration time paid off. Amazing details and sharpness in the head itself.

Phenomenal effort Paul...
Your time and and hard work have really really paid off!
That, my friend, is an absolutely, unequivocally, brilliant image... Boy do I regret selling my 8" RC now... I thought I regretted it before, but man oh man do I feel silly... :D
Not to worry... Another one will come soon.. :D
Top shot alright, excellent work Paul.

Thanks all, really appreciate the comments.
Humayun, I can do some dodge work on the head but did not want to extend the amount of noise right there. I will take a look at this later.
Alex, yes these scopes just keep impressing me more and more. Who would have thought that a scope for just 2000 or so dollar could produce this detail. I am a very happy owner.
Allan that is a huge compliment, but alas there are others out there that are just that little bit nicer in my opinion.

The results speak for themselves. It was worth putting in all that time and effort to produce such a beautiful image.
Thanks.
Lovely work Paul, there is some wonderful depth to the HH itself.
Cheers

WOWOWOWOOW:thumbsup:
Great image Paul lot's of fine detail, the star spikes have colour's in them. Is this a processing thing or a RC thing as I have never seen it in my Newtonian.
Clear skies Ken
Great effort Paul, a really smooth result.

Thanks all,
Ken, I am not sure why this happens. I have looked at my 40D shots and it appears on bright stars there too. It might be just an aberration of this RC design. Sorry cannot help you here.

Top effort, Paul. Well done. :eyepop:
As for colour in the spikes, I get them with my 200mm reflector too. Doesn't bother me.:D
The one thing that strikes me about this image is the colour balance that you have achieved and brought out. I don't think I have seen a better processed HH with regards to the colours you have produced, absolutely fantastic!

Really lovely image Paul. One to frame and hang on the wall for sure. A lot of exposure time but the results speak for themselves.
As you say the scope just amazes me. I hope mine works out as well. Just waiting for the flattener.

Which flattener did you go with Doug?
Hagar
24-12-2009, 09:52 AM
The same as you are using I think. Tak TOA35 flattener. I have enough bits and pieces to balance the position but I guess some experimentation will be required.
I think a new focuser may be required yet but I will wait and see how the stanard focuser goes. If I go down this track I will have to get a new adapter for the robofocus motor.
Which focuser did you go with and are you happy with it?

Doug I went with the Feather Touch focusor and yes it is superb. A far better focusor than the moonlite I have but infinitely more so than the focusor on the rig when I got it. The focusor has been beefed up since I bought mine though, so I am sure yours will be fine for the job.

gorgeous result, Paul!
in my mind, the HA-shock waves might even be littel more emphasized, I think they'd tolerate this.
I love the little IC neaby - it displays a lot of subtile structure.
cool image!
