Tarantula Wide Field (300mm f4) in Ha

Hello all...
After some home renovations which saw my set up in moth-ball mode, I captured a few images of the Tarantula Nebula (NGC 2070) over the last couple of clear nights.

I hope to eventually combine this Ha with some OIII and RGB data for a full colour version soon.

Canon 40D (modded)
Canon 300mm f4L lens @ f4
HEQ5 Pro

14x15min subs (210mins total)
iso 1600, ICNR on, Flats.

Mike - it's the Astronomik 12nm Ha EOS clip in filter for the 40D which slips in over the sensor...seems to work reasonably well and it allows enough light through for me to focus on brighter stars. I also have its OIII equivalent.

Doug, do you still use the Hutech LPS filter on the front of your lens? I'm wondering whether to go with one of those or the EOS Clip Astronomik.

Hi Jason - Yes i still use the 77mm Hutech filter on the 300m lens for RGB shots. I've tried both the Hutech and Astronomik Clip in filters but they didn't work well for me. Hutech model showed a severe light cone on my subs which was impossible to remove with flats and processing...

...may have been specific to my setup as I use 2 Canon f4L lenses with the rear element close to the glass of the clip in filter:shrug:
The Astronomik CLS CCD filter didn't have the light cone artifact, but I found the colour correction a bit harsher than the Hutech's to my eyes.
So, I bit the bullet and paid the extra for the large 77mm baby which I use on all my lenses with step filter ring adapters!

If you can avoid that annoying light circle I would go with the Hutech clip in version as I know loads of guys didn't have the problems I experienced.
