These pictures were taken at Tooradin airfield. The pilot of the ultralight started his plane with the throttle on full & had no brakes. this was the result.

As the ultralight pilot had no insurance he had to sell his plane to pay for the damage. He did $20,000 worth.

my former employer did the same thing , took out 2 or 3 planes , just previous to that he was flying along in his ultralight and one of the propeller blades fell off forcing him to shut down and glide down to a crowded beach.

I don't know which one finished up his flying after this , wife or aurthorities, but he drives a lot more now.

your plane doug ?

Ouch, I wouldn't own either if I couldn't afford the insurance.

Hi Nightstalker,
Both aircraft in the incident were not mine. The airbourne photo was taken from mine. I since sold it after my best friend was killed in a midair 2 years ago. He had his tail cut off in flight by an indian national on his 2nd solo flight. My friend Don had over 3,000 hours of flying in command. The pictures are of him Don Ewart(dec) :( and my ex-plane (Gemini 25-0044).

I lost Five good friends to aviation crashes involving G.A & Ultralight, I personally had one Forced landing, an eletrical fire in flight & a engine failure after take off. I could see the writing on the board. It was just a matter of time before I would be joining the list of dead friends.

So I quit.

I would know that if i had a plane it would have insurance against it.
If the other fella had to sell his i wouldnt of been much value.
Cheers Kev.

Doug,

the minimum separation thing really annoys me about high volume
flight schools now.
Here is a shot with me inside a Piper, #2 seat on approach
to Parafield 21R
Check out the separation with us and another on final 21L, the parallel
runway adjacent.

Hi Kev you don't think an AVID with a 912 is worth much money mate. I don't know about you but $40,000 is alot of money to give away. As I understand it the owner/Pilot is still paying the bank off for something he doen't own. Also the last shot Home built, Ultralight & some vintage aircraft can't get insurance. They just don't offer it.
