What's left. Santa's been straightened up as you know. We now have a Mrs. Claus just so it didn't seem too sus' for a grown man to hang out with a bunch of elves, pixies and lordie, lordie reindeer. The Easter Bunny seems to be out there still I think. Noddie and Big Ears are long gone as is Winnie the Poo. Heaven forbid how could you name a bear 'poo' anyway. Instead we have the no less androxynous Wiggles, Bananas in Pyjamas and Anna Bligh. Save me from the real world. Please!

Serious??? Damn that’s crazy... I am just waiting until people start saying that Santa should be thinner as he promotes obesity.

I really can not believe there are people out there that study this stuff and think that young kids understand the political or socioeconomic messages that it might or might not be sending….

When was the last time you heard 5yo’s debating the serious world issues that are represented in Thomas the Tank… FFS

When you see the qualifications of the author "Political Scientist" you should immediatelly label it as rubbish. A "Political Scientist" is not a scientist just a toadie for the government that employs him. His findings are based only on his and his masters' interpretation of the material examined. It probably occupied his appointment for 12 months and for which he was paid a lot of money.

Come to think of it this description probably describes 99% of political advisors.

Thomas is definitely my friend too!

Crazy stuff.

Also crazy - I bought a jar of that "iSnack 2.0" the other night in the belief that it had already gone through a name change, and that the original label might be collectible some day (me collecting again..LOL).

Anyhow - on the label:

"Best before Feb 2010 - Jar may break on impact".

Well I've been saved. They've now made me aware that the jar "may" break if hit. Thank you Kraft. I feel safer, and you've done your best to warn morons that you know of their dastardly scheme to make a buck from you by feigning ignorance.

Is there to be no end to this cotton wool treatment? Surely it will end some day.

I fully agree Trevor. :D

I can't remember the last time I saw a 5 year old with a socio-political degree.

When will this PC navel gazing end and someone come along and grab some of these loons by the scruff of the neck and give them a good shake?!?!

Honestly!

And do we really need to be encouraging kids of that age to be rebellious, radical free-thinking mould-breakers? Surely, there's plenty of time for that later. They're called 'teenagers'!

There's a way to make yourself known and give this twat and his government overlords the severe tongue lashing they deserve....write into your local member or the minister concerned and let them know in no uncertain terms what you think about this nonsense. Tell them, no more of this social engineering and such or they're out of a job at the next election.

Nothing piques a pollies attention like a threat to their cosy cash cow.

In the spirit of protecting the innocent from everything, I suggest we also make sure they are not exposed to classical music, opera or ballet. The story lines behind most great opera or ballet, for example are filled with naughty stuff, blood, guts, arbitrary and capricious behaviour, stereotypes and worse. Hess, I was just watching a ballet adapted from the musoc by Rimsky-Korsakov, "Scheherazade" the story line of which goes something like this:
"The Sultan is convinced that all women are false and faithless so he vowed to put to death each of his wives after the first nuptial night. But the Sultana Scheherazade saved her life by entertaining her lord with fascinating tales, told seriatum for a thousand and one nights. The Sultan, consumed with curiosity, postponed from day to day the execution of his wife, and finally repudiated his bloody vow."
Pick any piece by Verdi and see how much humping and bumping is going on, how much murder and mayhem. So lket's also make sure the little darlings know nothing of music except rap. Oh no, wait a minute, have you heard the lyrics of any rap lately. What are we to do? Oh me, oh my.

What about Goldilocks. ? She commits sooo many crimes and gets away with it. First she breaks into a private residence, then she sits on three different sized chairs, (smashes one, doesn't she? -vandalism) then she steals food by tasting all three bowls thereby contaminating them with DNA, swine flu and what else, then she goes upstairs and lies on a male's bed (shock horror, it isnt even a human male - she's kinky as well), then a females bed (one of those eh???) then on a little boy's bed.
It's disgusting, ban it immediately, cleanse our dear little kiddiwinkies minds from all that filth and indoctrinate them with some nice politically correct stuff about..... umm cant think what.....er...perhaps a true life story of one of our "gods of sport???":D

jjj, I loved Scoobie Doo also (although driving around with a group of friends in a psycodelic van solving mysteries did look like a good way to spend the rest of my life).

My daughter told us recently the latest word to be banned at her school is "fat" - in any context - whether you are describing a person or an object - any context. We told her in no-uncertain terms it is not banned in our house and she can use the term whenever she like.

matt

Dear, oh dear!!!

What next? You're not allowed to describe someone as blond or brunette? Bald or hairy? Left or right-handed, in case it offend?

Words only becomes offensive if used in an offensive manner/contaxt, in a way to deliberately ridicule, hurt or belittle.

In and of itself...the word fat has every right to be used as a way of describing something that's 'overweight' as any other word.

I think the problem with using terms like 'obese' is that it somehow gives it a scientific 'neutrality', which makes the subject being discussed somehow more palatable...

But as in a lot of this PC-ing...that can do more harm than good. We end up talking around the subject instead of tackling it head-on with the language which we all understand and carried more 'punch'. Fat is not a good way to be. I'm a little fat these days and that's how I describe myself. I don't look to sugar coat the condition. Fat is fat!!! The word hits home with me...and I feel the urge to do something about it when I describe myself that way.

Now, if I described myself as moderately obese....well, I'm inclined to feel a little shielded from the blow of reality. It's like the language has distanced me from the reality of my state, if you know what I mean?

It's all BS and ridiculous.

Time for a poll on IIS and the rest of the world. Has PC gone too far? IMHO the answer will be "yes". Every day there seems to be some new and even more outrageous piece of politically correct BS ,usually from the UK. Are they competing with each other as to who can come up with the most rediculous crap? Maybe it is keeping up with the Khans (PIC to be keeping up with the Jones's.)

perhaps the new web-ad for the Toyota Yaris is the reason a lot of people want more PC-language and attitudes... because much of the movement for PC-language is about respect for others.

(BTW, i thought the ad was boring, unoriginal and puerile but in my office I seemed to be in a minority...)
