View Full Version here: : Problem with SynScan

I havent used SynScan (v2.05a) on Solar System objects before last night.
I thought Id have a go at Uranus/Neptune sometime over the next couple of weeks so I decided to test the GoTo out on the Moon and Mars and it was a fair way off.
Anyway during the day today I had a practice and think I found the cause - the Dec readout was showing -8 and -15 respectively. I double checked everything, named stars seemed correct.
Anyone else using v2.05a in the Southern Hemisphere having this problem ?
Any suggestions ?
:help3:
Thanks
Chris

Oh no, I think a phone call to Rob @ Tasco in the morning is warranted!

Rob said that you mount has only just turned up, he did my handcontroller on Friday and sent it the same day. Cannot fault the service from him, but with things out of his control, IE software he can only advice and take notes. Fellas i think we will be Beta testing for a while and send the reports of what went right and what went wrong back to him for feedback.

Update
Just did test indoors.
Usual setup, and one star align (assumed it was correct)
Created a user moon object using the moons RA/DEC from CDC (Dec was +13)
Did a SynScan goto the Moon Dec ended up at -13
Did a goto for the user moon, guess what, it slewed 26 degrees to +13 Dec.
Doesn't sound right to me.

Chris must agree with you there on that one, it doen't sound right. what about some slewing to other known objects?

I checked the readout for a few common clusters and stars they were correct.
I havent had a chance to try the goto on them, busy tonight :drink:so Wednesday or Thursday night if clear.
Ill talk to Steve about it after he's back from Siding Springs on the 20th.

hopefully I will get my hand controller back in the mail today. it would be great to have a list of exactly what is in the handcontroller.
Chris are you reffering to Steve Massey? You are in the Know!!
I will do a setup tonight or tomorrow and test out what you have done.

Yes indeedy, he uses an eq6 with synscan and I think he's running v2.05a
Great, it'll be good to have confirmation one way or the other. And if mine is an isolated problem that should be resolvable.

OK after using this a few times and performing all three alignment options and drift alignments as well, it does no justice for the planets whatsoever, DSO's and stars are ok, but planets are about 90+ degrees out from where they really are physically located.

Thats horrible....not that you really need goto for planets anyway but thats dissapointing...I have yet to check or test mine properly....most of the time I dont even align or had need to use the goto on the skyscan....stupid hey.

im having problems with my goto as well. Mount is proper polar aligned in the regions of octan. after doing a 1 star alignment on crux then trying to go m42, it is way offf scale. my lattitude/longitude is correct. i have v2.02.
any help or advises would be great.
