Good on you, Sadly where I live we burn high sulphur FUEL OIL! to produce electricity :scared:
To the credit of the company (its a company town) they have a project in progress to bring Gas from the other side of the gulf of Carpenteria to Gove !
When they do that, I too will buy an electric mower !

Where do you think electricity comes from? The energy fairy? It's just a move from CO2 coming from your exhaust to it coming from the chimneys of coal burners thousand Klms away, in fact it takes more Kgs of burning coal per watt of energy than burning fossil fuels direct. If we don't see it, it don't happen. Even energy stored in hydro electric schemes of the 50's is energy diverted from the agricultural heartland. Nahhh, start your victa and prosper, or, buy a sheep.

Brown coal is filthy stuff. Go for a drive in Gippsland and check out the brown/grey skyline throughout. Worse than Melbourne's skyline!

These mowers you could solar charge though, since you'd only use them for a few hours every few weeks.

It is estimated that a battery powered mower creates at least 85% less CO2 in comparison to a petrol mower, even when the electric power comes from brown coal generation.

We purchase Green power here. So if that comes from the energy fairy at least we are trying to do our bit for the enviroment. :)

John, I agree that petrol mowers are terrible polluters. It's pretty obvious. You can see it, smell it, hear it. They are such a violent brute-force instruments, and only to cut some blades of grass. To my mind, they are very representative of modern western civilisation's attitude to the world around us. ... Well that's my excuse for neglecting doing the mowing anyway. :lol:

PS. Here's a pic of my enviro-mower. I just need to get a proper handle for it ... and learn how to tell the grass that needs cutting apart from my feet which do not ... :confuse3:

A surveying friend of mine had three of those and a few machettes in the back of his work truck. One day he sent his field hand off into the scrub to clear a patch to put in a recovery mark carrying two of the tools and a machette, he saw him go in and waited a while. Meanwhile he listened to vigourous slashing sounds, and then he heard an almighty "oh S**t". thinking the worst he sprinted over to where his field hand was. He found him lying on the ground, hand on his shin. he has cut himself with the slasher, after it had bounced off a tree trunk. he required 23 stitches. my mate now has a petrol version with a solid disk after that incident!
