Hi all, once again confronted the morning and managed to get this shot from a 120 sec AVI of 1170 frames out of 1275. Processed in Photoshop after wavelets in Registax3.
I think that I am getting better and putting the barlow in first then the diagonal and then the LPI definitely gives greater image scale and improved focus. Focus is still a bit soft and the see was 3/5. So not perfect but a little better from previous times.

Comments welcome.

Can you please re-attach it as a jpeg. You've attached a 900k bmp.

Thanks

Done, sorry must have saved the wrong way

Hey Paul - hope you don't mind, but I loaded your jpg into Astra Image, split into separate colour planes, deconvoluted and recombined.

Do you think this is an improvement? You should try this on your original large image, it'll work much better.

edit: oops, didnt see that second moon when I did this! I've re-done it, and maybe improved a bit more...

Nice pic rumples. I think Bird's processing is a really big improvement. It's less soft and shows the moon more clearly (which moon is it by the way?) as well as the GRS.

Thanks Bird, but dont have astra image, it it free ware?

Thanks Silvie, if you look there are in fact two moons, one down the bottom of the image. I think one is Io and the other is I think Ganymeade.

Paul - there's 2 moons in this image. Also - if you save your finished result in registax as a tiff then you keep more detail, TIF is 16 bits per channel, vs BMP at 8 bits per channel.

If you're going to try recovering detail in Astra Image then you need to keep as much detail as you can.

Astra image is commercial, but you can download a free version that does everything except save, and you get around this by taking screenshots to grab the finished image.

Hey you're right Paul! I guess it's just that Bird nearly cut off what I assume to be Io from his processed image I couldn't see it. You can just barely see it in your original image Paul so well done on capturing both!

That is a good image Paul.

Deconvolution, polynomial and FFT correlation image registration, advanced scaling, adaptive filtering, FFT editing and filtering, photometry, image calibration, homomorphic filtering and...

What language is this please? :P

Hey great work Paul , what was the image like on the screen at the time , like my recent saturn shots when using a barlow on jupiter seeing and clarity would come and go during the duration of the shot ,frustrating . Least its training for the Mars opposition coming up.

Stuart Image was quite good like this shot.

thanks Kevin for compliment.

Bird I bought the se version of Astra Image. And used the LR deconvolution in gaussian mode. I assume you did the same also as the image came out very much the same, but a little smoother. I would need to do that AVi again to save in Tiff format and might do that today.

Paul, because there is a moon in the frame, I highlighted it and used the "extract from image" option.

This is good, because the psf function that is calculated then makes the moon into a dot, so it should also fix the planet...

Be patient with AA - it has taken me more than a year to get a good feel for the right things to do, especially setting the number of turns and radius for LR deconvolution.

You can also try applying a gamma of 0.8 before doing the LR, that increases the constrast in the image a bit.

It's all trial and error...

I thought the moons would be in a line, rather than 1 at the side and 1 underneath!?

Great image though RR, bird's processing has made a marked improvement too.

Thank you very much for the tips Bird, the learning curve for processing is very steep and never seems to end; and it is really appreciated when someone helps out. Thanks.

Mike I checked on the moon predictor site and that is where the moons were meant to be.

Bird how do i do a screen shot? I would like to display the revised version, am still waiting for my license key to arrive.

Very nice image Paul, are you using the softwear that came with the LPI?

Mick I have decided today that I will no longer use the LPI software. I used both Ksccdtools for the avi I shot and the LPI imaging for the images to be stacked. The LPI images were in the was much more degraded than the AVI's. So from now on it is AVI's for me. I leave that decision to others using the LPI software.

Paul, I use the Gimp (it's free) and it has a screenshot option.

I'm sure there are lots of image processing programs with this option.

Windows version of GIMP is here: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/

You have to install the GTk+ library, and then install the Gimp. It's easy, and all explained on that page.

Just did another fiddle and got this. I am really happy with this. Just moved the RGB filter to the right 3 steps and this happened.
